Maria Torres

Maria Torres of Newark NJ, beloved wife, mother, sister, and "Titi" passed away September 1, 2025 at the age of 94 leaving behind a legacy of caring that her family will cherish forever.

Born January 12, 1931 in Cidra, Puerto Rico to Victor and Agustina Diaz, Maria settled in Newark with her loving husband, Lorenzo, after he joined the U.S. Army in 1954.

Maria truly loved spending as much time as possible with family. Family was everything to her – she lived to care for us all. Her kitchen was the focal point of most holidays and family gatherings, and Maria poured her heart into making sure everyone was having a fantastic time. Maria enjoyed dancing and hosting parties, playing dominos, and Loteria (Spanish bingo) - but her true passion was helping others in need, whether lending a hand babysitting nieces and nephews (and, later, the children of those nieces and nephews) or being there for sick family members. Coming from a large family, herself, Maria had a strong fondness for children and often volunteered her time as a teacher's aide at the preschool, assisting as a chaperone on school trips and serving lunches to kids during the week. Maria enjoyed traveling with Lorenzo, often to visit family and friends. She was known for her generous heart and welcoming spirit and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Maria is predeceased by her husband, Lorenzo, and survived by her devoted daughter Carmen, son-in-law Robert, and cherished brother Vitin, along with many loving nieces, nephews, and family members – all of whom Maria loved unconditionally.

Family and friends are invited to the Memorial Service on Saturday, September 27 from 12:00pm-2:00pm.
