Maria Elia Torrez, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home in Litchfield Park on April 27, 2025, after bravely battling pancreatic cancer. Born on December 30, 1953, Maria touched the lives of many during her time on this earth, bringing warmth, laughter, and love to those fortunate enough to know her.
She was a devoted spouse to Benito Torez, with whom she shared an incredible journey of 53 years filled with cherished memories and unwavering support. Maria was also a loving sister to her siblings Jose, Gloria, and Margarita, who held her memory dear, as well as a caring mother to her children Christina, Tishler, and Mellissa. The light of her life shone brightly through her grandchildren—Monique, Marissa, Benjamin, Michael, Izabel, Christopher, Mathew—and her 14 great-grandchildren, all of whom revered her deeply and will carry her spirit with them forever.
Maria's personality was as vibrant as her favorite color green. She had a zest for life, enjoying afternoons at the casino, the thrill of bowling, and the suspense of watching murder mysteries. Her heart was most full when she devoted time to her family, sharing laughter and stories, always ensuring that her loved ones felt cherished and special. Maria was also known for her delightful culinary skills, especially her delicious Caldo de Res, which brought comfort and joy to gatherings.
A true lover of music, she found much joy in the melodies of Juan Gabriel, their lyrics resonating with her soul. There was a grace and beauty to Maria's presence, one that will forever be imprinted in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
The family wishes to invite all who knew and loved Maria to join in commemorating her life. There will be a visitation at Avenidas Funeral Chapel in Avondale, AZ on May 2, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life at Marissa's House in Wadell, AZ from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM. It is a time for family and friends to come together to share stories, reminisce, and honor a remarkable woman whose spirit will forever glow in their hearts.
Maria is survived by her loving husband Benito, her siblings, her children and their families, all coming together to ensure her legacy lives on through their laughter, love, and cherished memories.
She is preceded in death by her mother Maria, father Antonio, and brother Tony, who now welcome her with open arms into eternal rest. Maria's journey may have ended, but the indelible mark she leaves behind will be carried on by the many who loved her.
