Maria "Marie" Vanderhoff, a beacon of warmth and love, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones, on November 18, 2025, in
Carmel, NY. Born in Yonkers on the last day of 1939 to Dominick and Josephine Salustri, she embodied the joy and resilience of her generation, navigating life's peaks and valleys with remarkable grace.
Marie was the cherished wife of the late Richard Vanderhoff, with whom she built a rich life. Their partnership was a testament to true companionship, with their love story setting an example for future generations. Marie was a source of unwavering strength and comfort, shouldering the loss of her beloved husband in 2014 with poise and resilience.
A true matriarch, she is survived by her adoring children, Richard Vanderhoff Jr., Sandra Eby and Brian Vanderhoff. Grief had visited her life earlier with the untimely loss of her daughters Domenica Lipton and Veronica Croteau, whose memories she kept in the sanctuary of her heart.
Marie's legacy extends through her grandchildren Stephen, Robert, Victoria, Paige, Olivia, Madelyn, and Veronica, whose lives she touched with her unconditional love. Her great-grandchildren, Anthony John and Liliana, also had the joy of experiencing their great-grandmother's enveloping love.
Marie's journey was remarkable, not only for the love she bestowed upon her family but also for her dedicated professional life. Her nurturing spirit found its professional expression as a Certified Nurse's Assistant at Putnam Nursing & Rehabilitation in Holmes, NY. When Marie was not at work she loved to read, play scrabble, play cards with her friends and travel.
As much as she gave to her work, Marie's true passion was her family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren, absolute lights of her life, provided her with endless joy and it was in their company that Marie's spirit shone the brightest.
The love Marie had for family was evident through the cherished Sunday dinners and holiday gatherings around the dining room table. Among her many interests, Maria loved to read and play Scrabble.
Her sister, Ida Caffaro, remains to honor Maria's memory, together with a multitude of relatives and friends whose lives she brightened.
Marie Vanderhoff's journey through life was marked by the love she gave and received, the lives she touched and the enduring bonds she forged. As we celebrate her remarkable life and mourn her passing, we find solace in the memories she leaves behind and the indelible imprints she has made upon our hearts.
