Maria Villarreal Obituary

Maria Anna Villarreal, affectionately known as Wera, a beacon of enduring love and selflessness, left this world on October 24, 2025. Born on December 10, 1959, in the peaceful town of Alpine, Texas, Wera's journey through life was marked by an unwavering dedication to her family, an infectious zest for life, and a spirit that radiated positivity to all she encountered.
Wera's legacy is cherished and carried on by her devoted husband of 49 years, Heliodoro (Lolo) Villarreal, her loving children, Priscilla Badillo and husband Eric, and son Joe Anthony Villarreal with his wife Perla. Her life was further enriched by the joyous laughter and boundless energy of her five grandchildren, Brianna Badillo and her husband Ismael Ontiveros, Adrian Badillo and his wife Nyla, Anthony, Damion, and Areli Villarreal, and her three great-grandchildren, Josiah, Melanie Ontiveros, and her angel in heaven, Baby Evalynn Badillo. Wera's siblings, Jacobina (Coy) Gonzales with husband Ruben, Jorge Pinedo alongside Delia Carreon, and Mary Lou Estrada, share in the wealth of precious memories left behind. Preceding her in passing were her parents, Jose and Julia Pinedo, her brothers Jaime and Javier Pinedo, and her cherished great-granddaughter Evalynn Badillo.
For 36 years, Wera poured her heart into her work at the ECISD cafeterias, where she not only nourished the bodies but also the spirits of countless students with her warmth and care. Her dedication to service was a testament to her faith-filled life, as she believed in the power of giving and the strength of community.
Wera's spiritual foundation was a wellspring of inspiration that guided her through life's ebbs and flows. Her faith was her compass, leading her to acts of kindness and moments of profound connection with those around her.
Her passions were a reflection of her loving nature; Wera's pride and joy were unequivocally her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She reveled in the act of spoiling them, cooking for them, and especially in making them homemade tortillas-a symbol of her love rolled out and cooked to perfection. Wera's joyous soul found expression in her cherished trips to Ruidoso with her sister Coy, where they shared both laughter and serenity.
Travel was a thread woven throughout Wera's life tapestry. She treasured family cruises, exploring new horizons, and the simple pleasure of a dance floor beneath her feet and a shot of tequila in hand. These moments were not escapes from life but rather full-hearted embraces of all the beauty life has to offer.
Wera was the embodiment of love, her faith unwavering and her generosity boundless. She navigated life's challenges with grace, always placing the needs of others before her own. Her presence was a sanctuary, her actions a testament to the power of selflessness.
As we celebrate Wera's remarkable journey, let us hold close the lessons she imparted through her example: to love without hesitation, to serve with joy, and to savor every precious moment with those we hold dear. Maria Anna Villarreal's spirit will forever dance in the hearts of those who loved her, and her legacy will continue to inspire us to live fully, love deeply, and laugh heartily, just as she did.
