Marian Sue Byrd, 88, of Big Lake, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, September 18, 2025. She was born in San Angelo, Texas, on December 19, 1936 to Gordon Elmo Roach and Donnie Leona Cutbirth Roach. She grew up both at the family ranch in north Reagan County and in Big Lake, where she attended Reagan County schools, graduating in 1954.

Marian Sue’s faith drove her life. She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Big Lake, where she taught Bible school, played piano for many years, and made many friends.

Marian Sue loved reading from an early age, consuming almost everything in the local library. She also love travel. Her travels took her on many road trips with her husband Tom. Other trips included tracking family history, an archaeology dig in the Yucatán, and trips with the Globe Well Service staff.

Marian Sue worked in the offices of the telephone company, tax assessor, credit bureau, and Globe Well Service where she met her second husband Tom Byrd.

Marian Sue was preceded in death by her husband Tom Byrd, her parents Gordon and Leona Roach, and her brothers James Gordon Roach and Hulet Noyes Roach. She is survived by her son Mark Lawson Hendrix and wife Mikki Patterson her stepchildren Jim Byrd, Jerry Byrd and Mary Huff, grandchildren Caleb Huff and Hannah Huff, niece MJ Roach, and nephew Richard Gordon Roche, as well as numerous cousins.

Her funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at the First Baptist Church, 510 E. 7th St, Big Lake, Texas. Viewing is at the church, prior to the service, starting at 1:00 p.m. graveside immediately after the funeral at Glen Rest Cemetery, 100 E. Lakeside St., Big Lake, Texas.
