Marian Cowell Obituary

Marian E. Cowell (Adkins)

07/08/1925 - 02/02/2025

Marian E. Cowell, 99, of Northwood, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 2, surrounded by love at the Genoa Retirement Village, where she resided for the past five years. Marian was born July 8, 1925, in Ross Township, to Ernest and Elsie (Doering) Adkins. She graduated from Olney High School in 1943, where she was a majorette, class president, and valedictorian. Marian later married her classmate, Lester R. Cowell, on August 9, 1947. She worked as a secretary at Libbey Owens Ford for ten years, then retired to raise their family.

Marian took a supportive role in her children's activities at Northwood Schools, serving as president of the Mother's Club and member of the Band Boosters. She was a longtime member of the Olney School reunion planning committee, and was honored to present the Olney School Flag at the rededication of Northwood High School in 2017.

Marian and Les built a home near the Adkins family farm and she lived there for over seventy years. She enjoyed supporting Les in his artistic endeavors, sharing wonderful times together with their family and friends, playing the piano, and preserving family memories. Her role as a caregiver to loved ones was an important part of her life. Marian was a life member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Toledo, and its women's circles. Additional memberships included Oregon Jerusalem Historical Society and Toledo Swiss Ladies Society.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Ted (Rhonda) Cowell, Karen (Jim) Wicker, and Janet (Jeff) Clough; 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way; 1 great-great-grandson; many extended family members. Preceded in death by her parents; husband of 57 years, Lester; and siblings, Erma, Howard, Norman, and Robert.

I can't remember not knowing Les and Marian a a child visiting my grandmother who lived behind them and then as an adult being their neighbor.
It was a blessing to know the entire family.
Our thoughts are with all of you.
God Bless

I was at Olney schools final tour and met Marian, what a beautiful speach she gave that day. She was kind enough to even give me a copy of it. What a kind lady. I also grew up next to her in-laws.
