Bissler & Sons Funeral Home and CrematoryMarianne Youdell Duffy, 84, died on Thursday, December 4, 2025 in Kent, Ohio.
She was born on August 22, 1941 in Cleveland, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Dr. Norman V. Duffy Jr.; her parents, Joseph A. and Mary G. (Waldecker) Youdell; and her son-in-law Robert D. Miller II.
She is survived by five children, Norman “Vincent” Duffy III (Amie) of Brighton, Michigan, Mary Duffy Bulgrin (Matthew) of Munroe Falls, Ohio, Joseph L. Duffy (Caroline) of Cranford, New Jersey, Anne-Marie Miller (Robert) of Beltsville, Maryland, and Maureen D. Eve (David) of Corydon, Indiana; and was devoted to her 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Marianne graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Baltimore, Maryland in 1962 and moved, with her husband, to Kent, Ohio in 1966. She worked for many years with the Kent Visiting Nurses Association and retired in 1996. After moving to Wheeling, West Virginia, she continued as a home health nurse until 2003.
With her husband, Marianne was a faith filled, active parishioner at St. Patrick Church and helped establish the St. Patrick School Foundation. She was a lector and eucharistic minister. They also worked extensively in Marriage Encounter and other forms of marriage ministry.
Marianne was an avid bridge player and a world traveler. She visited 87 countries and worked to instill a love of travel in her grandchildren and took them on trips from Norway to Australia, joining them to ride camels in Egypt and float down the Amazon River in Brazil.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 313 N. Depeyster St. Kent, OH 44240, with the Rev. Fr. James Daprile as Celebrant. Inurnment will follow at Standing Rock Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Patrick School Foundation, 127 Portage St., Kent, OH 44240.
