Marianne Piskorski (née Gnaster) passed away the morning of August 28 at the age of 90 after suffering from dementia for several years. She was born December 5, 1934. She grew up in Ord, Nebraska, sometimes feigning illness so that she could leave school and listen to her radio programs. She attended Duchesne College in Omaha, getting her teaching degree there. Marianne married Ed Piskorski on July 6, 1957. She, Ed, and their children moved around the Midwest, following Ed's work in the meatpacking industry, eventually settling in New London, Wisconsin, in 1980. Marianne worked as an elementary school teacher for many years. Her final assignment was spent at St. Mary's Catholic School in Bear Creek, WI, until the school closed in 2002, at which point she retired. Beloved by her students, they continued to send her cards and visit her up to her death, decades after she retired. She enjoyed reading, taking walks, and baking cookies. She is preceded in death by her husband Edward, her parents Edward and Velma, her sister Monica, and her children Christine, Ellen, and Edward Jr. She is survived by her children Mark (Thu) and David (Jadwiga), her grandchildren Andrew (Kayla), Derek, Matthew, Clayton (Jesse), and Ela, great-grandchildren Aubrey and Clayton Jr., and niblings Steve (Pam), Monica (Larry), Sam (Liz), David (Clanice), and Victoria (John). Services will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1621 University Ave NE, Minneapolis, MN 55413 on September 19. Visitation is at 10 a.m. and mass at 11, followed by a luncheon. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Smile Train or Catholic Extension.
