Marie Anderson, 91, of Aplington, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, Iowa. A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 11, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church in rural Wellsburg. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 12, 2023, at the church. A private inurnment will be held at the First Christian Reformed Church Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the family. Abels Funeral and Cremation Service, Doyen-Chapel is taking care of Marie and her family.
Marie was born on January 21, 1932, in Aplington, Iowa, and was the loving daughter of George and Gertrude (DeVries) Abbas. She graduated from Aplington High School and went on to earn her certificate in teaching from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Marie then taught for 2 years at the Pella Christian School in Pella, Iowa. She was united in marriage to John Anderson on July 10, 1953, at the Ackley Christian Reformed Church. The couple made their home in rural Wellsburg, Iowa and welcomed 5 children into their family.
Marie was a hard-working dairy farmer’s wife. She enjoyed her work and loved tending her vegetable garden. Marie was a long-time member of the First Christian Reformed Church in rural Wellsburg. She served the church as a Sunday school teacher and was a member of the Queen Esther’s Circle and the Aplington Christian Women’s Club. However, her true joy in life came from her family and extended family. She adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and will be missed and long remembered by them all.
Marie is survived by her loving children Rodney Anderson of San Antonio, Texas, Michael (Diane) Anderson of Van Horne, Iowa, Derwin Anderson of Aplington, Iowa, Shelly (David) Hook of Grundy Center, Iowa; daughter-in-law Brenda Anderson (Mark Bessman) of Wellsburg, Iowa; grandchildren Gene (Allysen) Anderson, Trisha (Brian) Kajewski, Cassie (Brad) Dufel, Miriam Anderson (Mike Breeden), Heather Anderson, Aaron Anderson, Travis Hook (Tess Ory), and Blake (Haley) Hook; great-grandchildren Lane and Justin Anderson, Boone and Alexa Kajewski, Harper Dufel, Armani Breeden, Ameria Anderson, Jameson and Gemma Hook; brother-in-law Duane Anderson; and many nieces and nephews. Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband John; son Daryl; sisters Josephine, Geraldine, and Thelma.
