Marie T. Burkeitt

Marie passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on October 21, 2026. She was lovingly cared for by the staff at Viva Assisted Living and Suncrest Hopice . Marie was 96, daughter of the late Anthony DiSanto and Mary Pinto Di Santo , devoted wife of the late James J Burkeitt and devoted mother of James Burkeitt (Cynthia), Lisa Cangemi (Joseph) and Mark Burkeitt (Joan). Loving grandmother of Brittany Rastelli ( Raymond), Joseph Cangemi ( Abby) , Ariel Ledman (Brett), and Emma Burkeitt (Mike) . Cherished Nonna (great grandmother ) of Raymond Rastelli, Milania Rastelli, Harlan Ledman, and Reese Ledman. Loved by many nieces and nephews , and friends.

Marie was the youngest of 15 children, a fact that she proudly expressed to everyone . She is predeceased by all of them : Margaret, Minnie, Angie, Nancy, Carrie, Rose, Millie, Charles, Anthony, Mickey, Joseph, Frank, infant Joseph, and John.

Marie was a good mom, often taking care of neighborhood kids as well as her own. She could be counted on for a pot of saugsage scallopini, rice pudding and ham and cabbage…dad's favorite! She loved living in South Philly, where a car wasn't necessary to visit family and friends. In her later years she reluctantly moved to South Jersey to be near Jimmy and Lisa and grandchildren . She made new friends, discovered a love of Bingo, word games, and trivia, and enjoyed many local entertainers who performed in her assisted living fascilities. She was voted the "Queen "of Cardinal Village and the "mayor" of Viva. She encouraged many residents to join the fun. She also had no problem voicing her opinion in resident counsel meetings or making "suggestions" to the chef. Marie proudly earned the nickname "Trouble" and wore a pin to let everyone know it! She was a force to be reckoned with and will be sadly miss by many.

Family and friends are welcome to atend her viewing on Tuesday, October 27, from 9:00 to 10:30 AM at the Egizi Funeral Home , 119 Ganttown Road, Washington Township NJ. Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 AM at SS Peter and Paul Church, 362 Ganttown Road, Washington Twp, NJ. Interment at Gloucester County Veteran's Memorial Cemetary, Williamstown, NJ

In lieu of flower, donations in Marie's memory may be made to Viva Senior Living at Cross Keys Activity Fund, 3152 Glassboro Cross Keys Road, Glassboro , NJ 08028
