Obituary for Marie Bertha Casimir
Today, we gather to celebrate and honor the extraordinary life of Marie Bertha Casimir, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Born on July 31, 1940, in Laplaine du Nord, Haiti, to Derouche Joseph Voltaire and Hermica Gervais, Marie lived a life marked by resilience, love, and unwavering devotion. She passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at the age of 84, leaving behind a legacy of grace and faith that will forever be cherished.
Marie's early years in Port-au-Prince highlighted her remarkable talent as a seamstress. With creativity, precision, and an impeccable eye for detail, she transformed simple fabrics into stunning garments that adorned her community. Her work was not just a profession but an expression of her industrious spirit and innate elegance.
In 1962, Marie met her soulmate, Alfred Casimir, and together they built a life founded on perseverance, strength, and enduring love. Their union became a powerful example of commitment and devotion. In 1972, the couple immigrated to the United States, where they built a loving home in South Ozone Park, New York, and raised a family that brought them immense pride and joy.
Marie's faith was a cornerstone of her life. A devout woman, she re-dedicated her life to God, finding strength and peace in her spiritual journey. Her unwavering trust in God's plan guided her through life's many challenges.
Self-care was another defining aspect of Marie's life. Every Saturday morning, she devoted time to nurturing herself, a routine that included getting her hair and nails done. Her family fondly recalls how this simple ritual brought her joy and inspired others to prioritize their own well-being. Her husband, Alfred, eagerly awaited her return each Saturday, always admiring her refreshed and radiant appearance.
Marie worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Hillcrest Nursing Home, where her compassion and dedication touched countless lives. After retiring, she embraced her well-deserved time with family and friends, delighting in family dinners, celebrations, and staying connected with loved ones near and far.
Marie is survived by her devoted family, who will carry forward her legacy of love and faith:
• Her son, Ronald Casimir, his wife, Bonnie Casimir, and their children, Angelique and Charlotte Casimir.
• Her stepson, Edy Casimir, his wife, Lya Casimir, and their children, Keisha Casimir-Midy, Ayannah Casimir-Djeteli, Esq., and William Casimir.
• Her grandson-in-law, Ennis Midy, and Nik Djeteli.
• Her great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Naomi, and Joshua Midy.
Marie also leaves behind her siblings:
• Her brother, Jacques Lamarre, and his children, Evens Lamarre and Marjorie Lamarre.
• Her sister, Jocelyne Gervais, and her children, Gregory, Melissa, Samuel, Danny-Michel, and Roxanne Celissaint.
• Her sister, Marlène Lamarre, and her children, Kethlyne Lamarre and Joane Lamarre.
She is also lovingly remembered by her niece, Jocelyn Lamarre, numerous extended family members, and dear friends.
Marie's life reminds us of the beauty of self-love, the strength of faith, and the power of family. She leaves behind a legacy of patience, resilience, and unwavering belief in the goodness of life.
A funeral service to honor Marie's memory will be held at St. Martha's Church on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 9:00 AM, preceded by visitation from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM at Harnett Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest at St. Charles/Resurrection Cemetery.
