Marie Darga Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lynch & Sons Funeral Home - Walled Lake on Apr. 16, 2022.
Marie Elizabeth Darga (nee Wolf) was born April 12, 1930 and died April 15, 2022 at the age of 92.
She is survived by her six children: Linda Smith, Michael Darga, Doreen Pappas (John), Scott Darga (Denise), Lorelei Darga, and Lance Darga (Diane); her eight grandchildren: Amie Smith, Derek Smith (Angela), Heather Anys (Toby), Ashley Darga, Tamara Santilli (Jacob), Adam Darga (Gwen), Joseph Darga (Maria), and Lindsey Darga; her eight great-grandchildren: Dominic Smith, Rose Smith, Kathleen Nash, Lorelei Nash, Makayla Anys, Bryanna Voss, Anna Santilli, Logan Darga; and her great-great grandchild Athena Nash.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Darga, her son-in-law Michael Smith and her grandson Jason Darga.
Marie was born a farm girl in Warren, Michigan. Later she met Arthur and they married in 1948. They started their family in Armada on a 10-acre farm where she enjoyed continuing the traditions of farming. In 1965, their family of eight moved to northwest Detroit where they stayed until retirement. In 1994, they moved to Prudenville, near Houghton Lake which became the family vacation spot for the next 20 plus years.
Marie had many interests and hobbies throughout her life including ceramics, crocheting, canning fruits and vegetables, gardening, traveling, volunteering her time, and helping Arthur with his wood working. She also loved getting to know people; there were no strangers in her eyes, just people she hadn't met yet. This love brought her to volunteering at St. Vincent DePaul for many years and to joining the Red Hat Society.
She was a nurturer by nature which served her well while she cared for Arthur for 10 years as his health continued to decline with Alzheimer's. During that time, the family spent many weekends creating their special memories, including scooter rides, feeding the ducks, making "nests", and feeling loved.
As time progressed, Marie made the move back to lower Michigan to be closer to more of her family in the metro Detroit area. She continued to pursue her interests in crocheting, canning and socializing.
Marie was the cornerstone and matriarch of the family and we will miss her with all our hearts.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at Lynch and Sons Funeral Home, 340 N. Pontiac Trai (3 blocks South of Maple Road) in Walled Lake, from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 12:00 PM.

Aunt Marie was a strong and caring member of our family. Her sense of humor was never ending. We enjoyed her stories as she reminisced about growing up on the farm with her siblings. She had broad based life experience. She will be missed.
