Marie H. (Fier) Berthel, 94, of Bellevue, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 14, 2025.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bellevue. Family and friends are invited to greet the family from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Hachmann-Mier Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue, prior to Mass. Burial will take place in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Bellevue.
Marie was born on November 4, 1930, in Sugar Creek, the daughter of Leo and Clara (Holdgrafer) Fier. On April 26, 1949, she married Edwin T. Berthel, who passed away on April 29, 1996. Marie was a devout member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and a dedicated volunteer at St. Joseph School, helping with their hot lunch program. She had a love for playing BINGO, working on puzzles, and occasionally taking a bus trip to the casino. Her warmth, kindness, and sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Marie is survived by her five children: James “Jim” (Terese) Berthel, Judith “Judy” (Robert “Bob”) Hueneke-Kremer, Roger (Susan) Berthel, Shelia (Dennis) Klemme, and Darren (Jennifer) Berthel; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law: Pearl Fier, Gretchen Fier, Verna Powell, Grace Sterk, Marlene McAllister, and Mary Jean (Wayne) Nantz; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband Edwin; a son, Lorin Berthel; son-in-law, Darrel Hueneke; grandchildren, Shawn Berthel and Dustin Klemme; great-grandchild, Jill Willimack; siblings and in-laws, Joseph (Eunice) Fier, Lawrence (Arlene) Fier, Robert Fier, Arthur Fier, Leo (Darlene) Fier, Jr., Gerald Berthel, John (Phyllis) Berthel, Harvey (Mary) Berthel, Loras (Mariela) Berthel, Bob Sterk, Tom McAllister, Larry Dalton, and Lawrence Powell.
The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of Jackson County, Sunrise Villa and Mill Valley for all their compassionate care.
A memorial fund has been established in Marie’s memory.
