Marie Garrett, 87, of Turners Station, Carroll County, Kentucky, was born on October 26, 1938, in Wise's Landing, Trimble County, Kentucky. She passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025, in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, leaving a legacy of love and dedication to her family and community.
She dedicated many years of her life to the Carroll County School District, where she worked as a bus driver and teacher's aide, a role through which she touched the lives of countless students and families. Following her retirement on November 25, 1998, she remained invested in the community that had been a significant part of her life. She personally touched a lot of the children's lives over the years that she was involved in with school and church and could often always remember all of them by first name.
A proud member of the English Baptist Church, Marie contributed her time and talents, serving as church secretary and Sunday school teacher. Her faith was a cornerstone in her life, and she found great joy in nurturing the spiritual growth of those around her.
In her personal life, Marie was a devoted mother, she was passionate about crocheting, sewing, and quilting. These hobbies allowed her to express her creativity and share her creations with family and friends, further embodying her generous spirit.
Marie is survived by her loving son, Dwight M. (Mona) Garrett of Turners Station, KY; her brothers, David W. (Sally) Rowlett of Carrollton, KY, and Clyde (Christy) Rowlett of Milton, KY; as well as her six grandchildren, Kala Garrett, Nicholas Garrett, Amy Dermon, Logan Carriveau, Daniel Garrett and David Garrett, twelve great-grandchildren, Emma Beverly, Hadley Garrett, Alyssa Dermon, Adree Dermon, Case Dermon, Riggs Garrett, Bennett Garrett, Savanah Garrett, Destinee Garrett, Dacey Garrett, Danny Garrett and Trinton Garrett and two great-great-grandchildren. Their lives will forever carry the influence of her love and teachings.
She rejoins in eternal rest her beloved husband, Dalton W. "Donkey" Garrett, who passed on October 24, 2009; her son, Danny Lane Garrett, who left this world on August 25, 2001; and her parents, Roy Clinton Rowlett, on May 30, 1986, and Emma Lee Horner Rowlett, on November 25, 1998. She is also preceded in death by her three brothers, W.C. Rowlett on May 25, 2016, Dale Rowlett on August 2, 2024, and Bobby Rowlett on October 4, 1953.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at the funeral home and on Monday, November 3, 2025, from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at the English Baptist Church. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 PM on Monday, November 3, 2025, at the church. Burial will take place in the English Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the English Baptist Church General Fund in care of the funeral home.
Marie Garrett's warmth, kindness, and unwavering commitment to her family and faith will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew her. Her legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren, and all whose lives she touched during her life.
