Marie Alberta Greenwell

JACKSONVILLE - Mrs. Marie Greenwell, 85, of Jacksonville, passed from this world, surrounded by family, Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 at Infant of Prague Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

She was born on January 23, 1940, to the late Albert and Helen Pfab. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Francis Greenwell, her sisters Grace Gutknecht, Irene Schultz, Marjorie Pierce, Catherine Pfab, and her granddaughter Grace Greenwell.

Marie was a beloved mother and dedicated spouse who often put others before herself. Coming from humble beginnings, she learned to make the most of everything. She was a Marine wife, who during hard times like Vietnam, kept strong in her faith for her husband's safety and her children. Not only was she a homemaker but also worked as a bus driver and at various retail stores. She volunteered as a librarian at both Holy Spirit and Infant of Prague schools, as well as the Infant of Prague Thrift Store for several years.

As a life-long Catholic, her faith was central to her life and her family. She was a parishioner of first Holy Spirit Church and then the Infant of Prague Church for a combined 57 years.

She leaves behind her older brother, Joseph Pfab; her six children, Cynthia Greenwell, Christopher Greenwell, Mark Greenwell, Anthony Greenwell, Jason Greenwell and Theresa Greenwell; and five grandchildren, Bailey Hagen, Jacob Greenwell, Ethan Greenwell, Samantha Greenwell and Eliza Greenwell.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, December 30, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville Chapel.
