Marie Elaine Hurst

Marie Elaine Hurst, born October 12, 1951, in New Roads, LA, peacefully departed this world on
May 22, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. A lifelong resident of New Roads, LA, Marie was a devoted mother to her three children, Jason Hurst, Jessica (Quin) Powell, and Jennifer Hurst. She was a cherished grandmother to her eleven beloved grandchildren, and adored sister to her eleven siblings. She is preceded in death by her parents, August and Delores Hurst, whom she deeply admired and respected and her siblings Joseph Hurst & Bob Hurst Sr.
Marie was a loving mother and grandmother with a fiery personality and a loving smile. She was an active member of Bethany Church in Baker, LA. Her life was a testament to her unwavering faith in God and her boundless love for her family. Her home was always filled with warmth, kindness, and a spirit of generosity that touched the lives of everyone who knew her. Marie's steadfast devotion to her faith was evident in every aspect of her life, guiding her actions and inspiring those around her. She delighted in cooking and baking, often filling her kitchen with delicious aromas and her home with love.
Marie graduated from Rosenwald High School in the class of 1971 and later completed the Job Corps program in Dallas, TX. This achievement led to her career as a correctional officer of ten years at the Jetson Center for Youth (LTI). Seeking to serve others in a more personal capacity, Marie transitioned to a career in healthcare, working for Capitol Home Health for over a decade. She eventually moved into private sitting, where she cared for each patient as if God had sent her to do so. Marie retired from her fulfilling career, leaving a legacy of compassion and dedicated service.
Marie had a passion for conducting neighborhood Bible studies, decorating and hosting parties as well as weddings, and bringing the family together to make memories to forever cherish. Her gatherings were known for their joyful atmosphere and the sense of togetherness they fostered.
In her later years, Marie bravely battled health-related conditions with grace and resilience, never allowing her spirit to be dampened. Her strength and courage were a source of inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Marie Elaine Hurst's legacy of love, faith, and family will continue to live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, and all those who were fortunate enough to be a part of her life. She will be profoundly missed, but her memory will forever be cherished.
