Miss Kitajima will never be forgotten by our family. She helped my son with his math which was a subject that he had great difficulty with but she helped him succeed by tutoring him at home. I will never forget the research she did when choosing a dog, finding that Border Terriers had the fewest genetic problems and she was a devoted owner. We miss her.

"Miss K" was my 3rd grade teacher at Laurel in the 1975-76 school year. She brought math to life for us in the school's learning lab. I still remember playing with LiteBrite toys to learn the grid system, cooking rice krispie treats to learn fractions, and so many other hands-on, experiential ways she made learning meaningful and fun for us. One day she took my friend Suzanne Rehmus and me to afternoon tea at Blum's in recognition for our work. It was such a special occasion and made me feel very proud and cared about. My experience with Miss K established my beliefs about what education should be, which in turn led me to a career in education policy. I am deeply sorry for your loss, but so appreciative for the ways she touched my life.
