Marie Arlene Rausa (Rizzo) died peacefully at home on November 27, 2021, surrounded by her enormous and loud family. Marie was known for her sense of humor, biting wit, and her proclivity for speaking her mind. Marie was born October 12, 1931, and grew up in Somerville, spending memorable summers at Long Lake in Littleton. In 1957 Marie moved to Littleton with her husband, Smokin' Joe Rausa (deceased 2016). During her years of raising her children, Marie spent a decade working at the Mass Audubon Society, and also made lifelong friends from her time working at PennWell. In her early retired years, Marie spent her summers on the beach in Wells, Maine and traveling the world with friends new and old. Marie is preceded in death by her husband, Smokin' Joe Rausa, two sisters and her brother. Marie is survived by her six children and their spouses: Diane Maurice, Bob & Kathy Rausa, Janet Biggar, DJ Rausa & Beth Ziesenis, Michael Rausa, and Paul & Becca Rausa. She is also survived by her nine beloved grandkids: Yasmin & Robert Lalani, Andrew & Elizabeth Biggar, Joseph & Anna Rausa, and Jackson, Anthony, and Gabriella Rausa. Marie and her late husband moved in with Paul, Becca and their three children in 2008, and the family have lovingly cared for them both up until their passing. Marie was lucky enough to celebrate her 90th birthday surrounded by friends and family in October of this year. Marie will be missed from her place at the head of her family's table with a biscotti and a big glass of white wine. Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Marie for a period of visitation on Sunday, December 12, 2021, from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm in the Badger Funeral Home, 347 King Street, Littleton. Marie's funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 13, 2021, at 10:00 am at St. Anne Parish, 75 King Street, Littleton.

I´m so sad to hear the news that sweet Marie has left us. My special friend who started as a pal at my after school job at PennWell Publishing. The coolest "old" ladies I ever met. A friendship that extended over many decades from Littleton to Maine. How lucky am I to have shared splendid days in the sun and surf at Beach Acres with a joyous soul. Thank you for all your shared love, humor, laughter and wisdom. Smokin must be so happy to have you back by his side. Bless you.
Cheers. I love you, Pam-Skee!

I got to know Marie and her husband Joe, through banking at DCU, and also attending mass at St. Anne's in Littleton, MA. What a wonderful light she was. Touched me greatly. Very sad to hear of her passing. She is now in the loving care of our savior Jesus Christ. Loved her.

Lots of great memories with Marie and Smokin Joe in that loud Rausa home where I soon discovered everyone tries to talk at the same time. Outside of needed a parliamentarian to direct a fluid sense of conversation, these people are the Best! My condolences to the Rausa family.

Our deepest sympathies go out to the Rausa family. We knew Marie through Joe (one of our Legionnaires). We also knew part of the wonderful family that they had in Littleton. We know that Marie will be dearly missed.
