Obituary published on Legacy.com by Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel - Monrovia on Feb. 21, 2024.
Marie Thérese (St. Martin) Richhart, age 97, of Monrovia, was released of all earthly ailments after peacefully departing at 8:30am, on Monday, February 19, 2024, while in the care of Miller's Merry Manor, in Mooresville. One of eight children born to the late Peter and Lizette (Labarre) St. Martin, of
LaPlace, Louisiana, the story of Marie began on the 23rd day of May in the year of 1926.
Born and raised near the Louisiana Bayou, Marie and her seven siblings grew up on her family's plantation outside of New Orleans. She met Harvey, the love of her life while serving food to men when the Navy ported in the area. During this time, she also attended Louisiana Business College and gained her associate degree. Harvey and Marie married after the war in 1946, then returned to Indianapolis where Harvey had family roots. In 1950 they purchased the 70-acre farm off Gasburg Road where they raised one girl and four boys. Marie was strict with her children, an excellent homemaker, always very sociable, and an active person in the Monrovia and Mooresville communities. A faithful charter member of the St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Marie was actively involved with the Women's Group. She was the epitome of an "ideal" candidate to befriend as a neighbor and she was the ultimate matriarch and gatekeeper of North Gasburg Road. Pouring her entire heart into fulfilling her motherly duties, Marie was the most proud and supportive Memaw to her grandkids. She drove up until the age of 90 and had her wits about her to the very end. Marie had a very good life and was content with all she had and in return was loved and valued by many.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey; and three of her five beloved children, Juanita Knoy, Robert "Bert" and Michael "Mike" Richhart; all seven siblings, Peter, Lynette, Leah, Roland, Delphine, Charles, and Gerard; and granddaughter, Amanda Richhart.
Survivors include her sons, David Richhart (wife, Dorothy) of
Missoula, Montana and Donald "Don" Richhart (wife, Patty) of Monrovia; daughter-in-law, Peggy Richhart of Monrovia and son-in-law, Mac Knoy of Iowa; grandchildren, Heidi Strays (husband, Chris); Chad Richhart (wife, Alicia), Katie Richhart; and five great grandchildren, Brayden, Bailey, Hunter, Julian and Georgia.
