Lifelong Morgan County resident, Beverly Sue (Pfaff) Hurt, of Hall, was released from the ravages of living with dementia and passed just three days before her 80th birthday, on Monday, November 10, 2025. She was born on November 13, 1945, in Martinsville, to O. Mary (New) Stevens.
She spent most of her early years with her grandparents, Cornelius and Vangie New in Paragon. The oldest of three children, Beverly's foundation was built on the love and guidance of her dedicated grandparents. This early grounding helped forge the strong, dependable woman we knew and loved. Beverly excelled in academics and developed an ear for music playing the tuba in the band. She graduated from Martinsville High School with the Class of 1963.
Her life found its enduring partner when she was introduced by family to Denzil Jewel Hurt, a farmer from Hall. They were married on November 28, 1969, beginning a lifelong partnership and building a beautiful family. They were blessed with three beloved children: Alan, Amber, and Jeremy, who became the absolute center of her world.
Returning to work once the kids were in school, Beverly turned her tireless energy toward a phenomenal professional life. For an astonishing 34 years, she served the healthcare community at the Indianapolis Medical Society, where she helped to facilitate ideas and advocate for physicians, serving as the Executive Vice President for 25 years. Her dedication was not limited to her professional role; she was also a devoted community servant, giving 21 years as a board member and past president of the Morgan County Rural Water Corporation in Martinsville.
Her spiritual life was central, serving as the fifty-year song leader, and choir director of the Mt. Pleasant Christian Church in Hall.
Beyond the titles and tenures, Beverly was the undeniable matriarch of her family, loud, opinionated, and lovingly in charge. She was a master nurturer; an excellent cook who never let anyone go hungry, often going out of her way to fix something special just for someone at the dinner table. She wore many hats-at work, on the farm, at home, and in her church.
Beverly was famous for her flair. She was fancy, flashy, and always perfectly put together, taking immense pride in her reputation. She loved purple, going shopping, animals, and listening to music of all kinds. She cheered passionately for the Colts, enjoyed NASCAR and golf, and found quiet beauty in taking photographs of the farm and the changing seasons. Beverly lived a full, accessorized, and deeply meaningful life. Her legacy-the vivacious and personable woman she was-lives on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to share in her story.
Along with her loving husband and soulmate, Denzil J. "Big D" Hurt, she was preceded in death by her mother, O. Mary (New) Stevens; brother, Steve Davis; niece, Stephanie Parker; long time special friend and one of "The Girls", Jeanie Shupe; and canine companion, Kasey Kahne.
Survivors include her loving children, Alan J. "AJ" Hurt (wife, Joni), Amber Sims (husband, Terry) and Jeremy Hurt (wife, Taleena); sister, Nancy Grothkob; beloved grandchildren, Danton Hurt and Kristen Kitterman (husband, Jake); adored great grandchildren, Greyson Hurt, Avery and Atlas Kitterman; nieces and nephews, Josh Davis, Shelley Garman, John Lawson; special friends "The Girls": Pam Kivett, Patty Ratts, and Jane Crone; and a host of extended family members, church members, and friends.
A special thank you to Main Street Hospice, Mel Hadley, and Becky Collis who provided care and support so Beverly could remain comfortable in her own home until she could move to her eternal home.
Friends and family are invited to visit from 4 to 7 pm, on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel in Monrovia. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 11:00 am, on Friday, November 14, 2025, at the funeral home. Pastors Randy Weddle and Dave Neese will officiate the services. Burial will take place alongside her beloved husband, Denzil Hurt, in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Hall. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Pleasant Christian Church, 5830 W. Hurt Road, Monrovia, IN 46157. To share a favorite story, send the family an online condolence, or light a candle in her memory, please visit www.lightmemorial.com.

Although Bev is known to us physicians as a leader in the organization she loved she needs to also be remembered as a dedicated family member to so many. I was privileged to watch her care for her mother for years, and to listen to her stories of her children and grandchildren and their milestones and successes. Truly a special lady.

Bev was a stalwart and steadfast leader, friend and sounding board to many a doctor and to many a president and board chair of the IHS. She welcomed thoughts, options and suggestions that would enable the Society's outreach to be more inclusive and understanding. Her oversight of the Society included, not simply its day-to-day running, but the monthly bulletin and the "handy" book of numbers and information (including home phone numbers and addresses) of Indianapolis-based physicians. Also under her perview was the answering service for physicians in the pre-cell-phone era, requiring 24/7 coverage, holidays, weekends, etc. All of her work and contributions were done with grace and humor. She had a wonderful laugh.

Most all of my professional life as a member and Past President of the IMS, it was my fortune, blessing, and pleasure working many hours and over many, many years with Bev. She was, indeed, the leader of our Society and had so many wonderful staff working with her and for us. My memories of Bev will never fade. She now is in peace for eternity. With sadness, yet celebration of Beverly Hurt, Stephen W. Perkins, M.D.

As a physician I met her when I participated in the Indianapolis Medical Society (previously named the Marion County Medical Society). She was not only the stalwart of that society, she was the face of the IMS for decades. She was always advocating for her doctors! Let peace be with you now. Dr. B

Bev's dedication to the physicians of the IMS was unmatched. She effectively and effortlessly guided each member in leadership obligations. And herding physicians isn't an easy task. Behind the scenes, she made every physician appear as a stellar leader.
IMS and the medical community owes her enteral gratitude

I meant Bev when a brand new green behind the ears doc. She was always helpful and full of information. As I aged and worked with IMS her presence was the driving force. A wonderful lady who will be missed by many!

I first Beverly at the Indianapolis Medical Society, when I was appointed to join the Commission on Professional Affairs. She guided me through the process, and thanks to her guidance, I met several prominent physician members of our society, who taught me many things in and outside of medicine. It was thanks to her that I kept my membership, until work took away from Indianapolis.

Having shared MANY moments with Bev over the years, and having attended way too many meetings with her, she will be missed. Her caring devotion to the Indpls Medical Society was always first and forefront. Her calm and caring attitude was always evident, and her relationship with "her" doctors was one her her biggest attributes. Her stories about "the farm" and her work there, despite a full time executive IMS job were always entertaining.
Sorry to hear of her passing, but she may now be in a better place.

Peaceful Reflections
