Marie Roznowski Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bannan Funeral Home - Alpena on Feb. 13, 2026.
Marie Anne (DeCaire) Roznowski went home to see her ma on Thursday, February 12, 2026, surrounded by her doting daughters and kitty, Sadie. Waiting to greet Marie were her ma and dad, Florence and Leonard DeCaire; brothers, Jim, Jack (Joy), Jerry (Janet), Tom, Don, Charlie, Mike, and Joe; sisters, Elaine (Bob), Sally (Al), and Rosie; nephews, Lenny, Dave, Brian, and Stroh; nieces, Theresa and Annette.

Surviving are her daughters, Rebecca (John) and Amy (former spouse AJ and his daughters, Andrea, Jessica and Samantha); brother, Pat (Jo); sisters, Suzanne (Fred) and Janet (John); sisters-in-law, Bernie, Kay, Judy, Barb, and Barb; brother-in-law, John; former spouse, Joe; special niece, Kath; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Marie was born on September 18, 1942, the ninth of 15 brothers and sisters. She was a 1960 graduate of Catholic Central High School. Marie then joined the Dominican Sisters at Marywood in Grand Rapids where she attended Aquinas College and received a teaching degree. She had fond memories of traveling to Europe with her fellow Sisters, and a true highlight were the years she spent in Albuquerque, NM at San Ignacio School. She left Sisterhood after six years and taught at Holy Redeemer in Detroit before moving back to Alpena to spend her career at St. Anne Catholic School, retiring in 1999. Marie loved teaching and delighted in seeing former students and hearing of their accomplishments and reminiscing about their favorite subjects she taught – history, calligraphy, and country carving.

Following retirement, she loved to spend time volunteering with the READ program at the library, tutoring, making baked goods to share with those that crossed her path, and sending handmade cards. She had a kind and caring spirit, always thinking of others before herself. Marie enjoyed many trips with her daughters over the years from the Redwood Forest to the Blue Ridge Mountains. A special moment was traveling to Albuquerque and visiting San Ignacio again.

Marie formed a special bond with friends at AA during her 21 years of sobriety, sharing encouragement and taking it one day at a time.

A special thank you to the ladies at Hospice of Michigan for their kindness, and to Erin Vedder (Chris in the white truck) for her compassion, care, and unwavering support. Praying the Hail Mary and listening to Willie's Roadhouse classic country brought her peace and comfort until the end.

Memorial visitation will take place at the Bannan Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, from 4 p.m. until the time of the parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Memorial visitation will continue at St. Anne Church of All Saints Parish on Thursday, February 19, 2026, from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Rev. Emmanuel Finbarr officiating.
