Marie P. Tilmon

On August 21, 2025, our beloved matriarch
Marie (Pitt) Tilmon was called home to be with the Lord. Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice in knowing she lived a life full of love, faith, and grace.

Marie was born August 2, 1940, in Emporia, Virginia to the late Henry Pitt and Nora Wyche Tyler. She carried a spirit of strength and kindness that touched everyone around her. She was a woman who loved deeply and gave selflessly, always putting others before herself. Whether through her warm smile, hugs or her listening ear, Marie had a way of making everyone feel seen and cared for. She carried a light within her that drew people close and left them better than she found them.

Marie also loved to dance-whether at family gatherings, or simply around the house-her joy was contagious, and her movements reflected the rhythm of a heart full of life.

Her life was centered around the love of family. She was not only a mother and grandmother, but also a guiding light, encourager, and teacher. Her home was a place of warmth and laughter, where she loved freely with all who entered. Her grandchildren often remember how she told stories, gave wise advice, and modeled unconditional love and patience. She built her legacy not through wealth or titles, but through the values she lived daily-faith in God, love for her family, and kindness toward others.

Marie was preceded in death by her late husband, Joseph Melvin Tilmon, daughter, Mary Helen Allen, son, Leon Goode, brothers that proceeded her in death; Earnest Terry, Lonnie Terry, Willie Terry and Tracy Terry, and sisters that preceded her in death, Lucy Pitt and Corrine Easter.

She leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory: daughters; Laverne Goode (AJ) and Vanessa Goode, sister; Lauvinia Byrd, grandchildren; Ulanda Atkins, Lakisha Lewis (Xavier), Larry Goode (Nieque), and Latavia Goode (Aaron), great-grandchildren; Larry Goode, Conchetta Robinson (Jeremy), Marquet Goode, Miniya Morris, Christian Morris, Nadiyah Goode, Larry Goode Jr., Aaron Jacobs Jr., great-great grandchildren; Ta'Lesia, EJ, Ja'Quarius, Alajah, and Nevaeh, beloved son in law, Robert Allen and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
