Marie Estelle Vermeulen (née Johnson), born on March 18, 1948, in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025, in Byron, Michigan. She was 77 years old.
Throughout her life, Marie found joy in simple pleasures and creative pursuits. She had a passion for figure skating, a graceful art that reflected her own quiet strength. Her hands were often busy with ceramics projects that showcased both skill and imagination. She loved playing Yahtzee with family and friends, where laughter often echoed louder than the dice rolls. Her beloved Yorkshire Terrier Rhett was a constant companion who brought comfort and delight to her days. Marie also had a fondness for collecting Bettie Boop memorabilia, a playful nod to a spirited icon that mirrored some of Marie's own charm.
Marie was the beloved wife of the late Earl Vermeulen Sr., whom she often referred to as the love of her life. Together they built a blended family filled with love and resilience. Marie is lovingly remembered by her daughter Tracey (Steven) Howey; stepsons William (Mari) Vermeulen and Earl Jr. (Helen) Vermeulen; and her cherished grandchildren: Matthew (Abigail) Plunkett, Melissa McConnell, Kati Kovar, Josh Vermeulen, Jeremy (Kathryn) Vermeulen, Jennifer (Richard) Atkins, Timothy Vermeulen, Sarah (Shalyn) Leighner, Joseph Vermeulen, and Caden Vermeulen.
Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Malakai, David, Dean, Hadleigh, Rohen, Riglee, and Emily-each a testament to the enduring bonds of family that Marie held dear.
She is also survived by her brothers Donald (Shannon) Johnson, Bill Johnson, and George Johnson; along with several nieces and nephews who brought joy to her life over the years. Marie's circle of friends was wide and meaningful-many will remember her warmth and companionship fondly.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband Earl Sr.; her son George; stepdaughter Annette; grandson Ricky; and her parents Joe and Thelma Johnson.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date so that all who knew Marie may gather to honor her memory.
May Marie Estelle Vermeulen's memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
