Marie Erna Viebrock, 89, of Cole Camp, passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at Good Samaritan Care Center in Cole Camp. She was born on August 19, 1936, on the family farm near
Cole Camp, Missouri, a daughter of Leonard A. and Erna L. (Schumacher) Brunjes.
At the age of eighteen months, Marie's mother and brother, Lawrence, lives were tragically cut short as the family was crossing Indian Creek but her father was able to save Marie and her brother Rufus. Her dad, Leonard, along with the help of Aunt Bertha Brunjes raised Marie and Rufus until Leonard passed away when Marie was twelve years old leaving Aunt Bertha to raise both her and Rufus. She graduated from the Lutheran School in Cole Camp and was baptized by Pastor Karl H. W. Nierman on September 20, 1936, and confirmed by Pastor Henry J. Gerike on April 2, 1950, at Trinity Lutheran Church. At a young age, Marie went to work as an in home babysitter for several local families.
On April 1, 1956, Pastor Henry J. Gerike united her in marriage to Harold Otto Viebrock at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cole Camp. This union was blessed with the gift of two children, Wanda and Gary.
She was a long-time member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cole Camp. Marie worked as a cook at several restaurants, including the Deluxe Café and Friendly Tavern in Cole Camp and at Millie's in Sedalia. In the early 1980s, she was employed as a repair inspector at Lamy's in Sedalia. After it closed in 1998, she worked in the green thumb program at the Boonslick Library in Cole Camp and volunteered at the Cole Camp Museum.
Marie enjoyed doing embroidery, playing cards, putting puzzles together, word search, canning, and spending time with her grandchildren and watching them every chance she could.
She is survived by her daughter, Wanda Viebrock and Bill of Cole Camp; son, Gary Viebrock and Tonya of Cole Camp; sister-in-law, Martha Brunjes of Carrollton; five grandchildren, Tara Anderson, Kayla Sangster and Ryan, Tanita Theisen and Tanna, Cory Birch and Mark, and Tory Goetze and Garrett; seven great-grandchildren, Hunter, Fabian, Ruby, Gunner, Scarlet, Lily, and Ila: and a great-great-grandson, Reno.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Erna Brunjes, husband, Harold Viebrock, brothers, Lawrence Brunjes and Rufus Brunjes, grandson, Eric Viebrock, and several uncles and aunts, including Aunt Bertha which she was especially close to.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cole Camp with Pastor Stephen Zeller officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Cole Camp.
Pallbearers will be Hunter Anderson, Tanna Theisen, Ryan Sangster, Garrett Goetz, Wayne Viebrock, Kyan Bale, and Brandon Bale.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cole Camp.
Memorial contributions may be given to Little Blessings (St. Paul's Lutheran Church Day Care) in care of the Fox Funeral Home, Cole Camp.
