Bennettsville, SC – Mrs. Rose Marie Smith Woods, 84, widow of Gary Nelson Woods, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, following a brief illness.
Born in Fayetteville, NC, on February 1, 1941, Marie was the daughter of the late Leila Smith. A devout woman of faith, she was a longtime member of McColl Church of God for over 40 years and later worshiped at East Laurinburg Church of God and Oakhill Church of God. She was known as an avid Bible reader and prayer warrior, a dedicated Sunday School teacher-especially for adult classes-and a compassionate leader in her nursing home ministry.
Marie worked in the banking industry and as a bookkeeper for Turner Paving. She was cherished for her loving spirit, her delicious cooking, her homemade cakes gifted to the community, and her unwavering dedication to her church family.
She leaves behind to cherish her loving memory; sons, Mike (Robin) Woods, Keith (Kay) Woods, and Mark (Helen) Woods; grandchildren, Jerica (Matthew) Hardee, Anthony Woods, Jennifer Woods, and Alan Woods; 9 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren.
Marie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gary Nelson Woods; her mother, Leila Smith; her son, Jeff Woods; and four siblings.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Burroughs Funeral Home, officiated by Revs. Brian Oxendine and Brett Davis. Burial will follow at Rogers Cemetery in McColl. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the funeral home prior to the service.
