Elsie Woods
Rutland- Elsie May Woods, 85, formerly of North Clarendon, died peacefully on Sunday, October 19, 2025.
She was born on May 27, 1940, the only daughter of Elsie May Cox and George E. Woods, in Mendon. She moved to Rutland in 1941 and then to East Clarendon.
Elsie attended Rutland and East Clarendon schools.
In September of 1954, she started working at Haven Hill Orchard and then for the next 20 seasons at Haven Hill Mendon, Ellis and Griffins orchards in Castleton, making boxes, picking packing and loading apples during the season. She also worked as a waitress at Prouse's and Fairmont restaurants. In 1965, she worked at Metromail for 13 years on the night shift and in 1978 started working at General Electric night shift for 22 years until retirement due to disability in June 2000.
Elsie enjoyed flowers, crafts, stamp and coin collecting, classic car models, panda bears, and baking. She loved her pets and enjoyed taking pictures of her family and friends. (She will be greatly missed by all.
She was a member of Christ the King Church.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents and brothers Charles E Woods Sr in 1961, Raymond L woods in 1973, Forrest Woods in 2000, Martin Woods, best friends Mary E Jones in 1983, Ernestine French and aunts and uncles.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at Christ the King Church in Rutland. Burial will follow in the East Clarendon Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to the Rutland County humane Society, Shriners Children Hospital, Visiting Nurses or the American Heart Association.
