Alix, Marilyn
COHOES - Marilyn M. Alix, 84, formerly of Wetsel Road in Speigletown, and most recently of Island View Road in Cohoes, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, in the arms of her husband and daughter, on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at Novant Health Medical Center, in Huntersville, N.C. Born and raised in Cohoes, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Josephine (Jacon) Roberts; and was a graduate of Cohoes High School in 1959.
Marilyn was employed by the N.Y. Telephone Company, prior to becoming a wife and homemaker. While raising her children, she was an active mom at St. Mary's Elementary School in Waterford. She participated in the Mother's Club and many other school activities. Her proudest moments were cheering on her son at football and baseball games, and being the cheerleading coach for her daughter's team, where she coached the team to a first place victory in the CYO championships! In addition to being a stay-at-home mom, Marilyn owned and operated Blain's Bay Marina in Cohoes with her husband for 20 years. She also worked at the Grand Union Company after she and her husband sold Blain's Bay. She enjoyed traveling to all 50 states, to some of them more than once, and throughout Canada with Tom via their travel trailer, camper or by motorcycle. Her favorite state was Alaska! Some of her happiest memories were made at Fish Creek Ponds campsite in the Adirondack Mountains. When not traveling, she and Tom spent the winters vacationing in Fla., and at their daughter's house in Mooresville, N.C., for many years. Her favorite place was at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort. Marilyn loved cruising with her sisters, and occasionally visiting a casino! She especially loved sitting around a campfire, whether it be in the Adirondacks, at Karen's house in N.C., at Tom Jr.'s house on Island View Road, or at her home on Island View Road, overlooking the Mohawk River with her close friends and neighbors. She also enjoyed swimming, boating, jet skiing, watching her cowboy movies and playing word games on her iPad, as she would say, to help keep her mind sharp! Marilyn really enjoyed shopping, and shopping online became one of her favorite things to do! What Marilyn enjoyed most, though, was spending time at home.
Marilyn is the wife of Thomas W. Alix Sr. from Cohoes. They most recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on February 3, 2025. She is the loving mother of Thomas W. Alix, Jr. (mother-in-law to Michele) of Cohoes and Karen M. Alix of Mooresville, N.C. Marilyn is the beloved and proud grandmother ("Grammy") to her girls, Taylor, Brianna and KayLee Alix of Cohoes; all residing in Boston, Mass.; and to her two grandcats, Lucy and Leo of Mooresville, N.C., whom she absolutely adored.
Marilyn's siblings include the late Francis Roberts, the late Raymond Roberts, Patricia Shea of Amsterdam, Gloria Grosky of Clifton Park, the late Elaine Grestini, Hermaine Chotkowski of Amsterdam and the late Ronald Roberts. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
At Marilyn's request, there are no viewing hours. Relatives and friends will be invited to a celebration of Marilyn's life. Details will be forthcoming once arrangements are made by the family.
