Marilyn Bernadette Barthel, age 76, of St. Michael passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, December 24, 2025.
She was born in Otsego Township, Wright County the daughter of Adelor & Dorothy (Bistodeau) Roden on March 29, 1949. She spent her childhood on the family farm in Albertville, working hard and playing hard, producing many stories of her adventures in a family of ten and some of her fondest memories. Marilyn went on to attend St. Cloud State University, holding jobs as a secretary in Minneapolis, an accountant at the CoOp in St. Michael and many years as a lead cook in St. Michael-Albertville schools before retirement.
On September 20, 1969, Marilyn Roden and Sheldon Barthel were joined in holy marriage at St. Albert's Catholic Church in Albertville and have been faithful members of The St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael since. God blessed their 56 beautiful years of marriage with two adoring daughters and seven grandchildren.
Marilyn's light shined brightest when surrounded with family. She cherished listening to Sheldon's music, making a mess in her kitchen baking and crafting with grandchildren, sewing, cooking and was an avid gardener who knew all of her loved ones favorite flowers. Marilyn would never miss an opportunity to make a new friend while frequenting her beloved grandchildren's events. From dance recitals to sports to academic milestones, she was her grandchildren's and children's #1 fan. The imprint she has made on so many hearts will continue to bless those who knew her for years to come.
Survived by loving husband: Sheldon; daughters: Christine (Jeremy) Aydt & Mary (Corey) Stueven; grandchildren: Zachary, Ciara, Belinda and Sawyer Aydt; Lila, Camden and Griffin Stueven; siblings: Elizabeth "Betty" Vetsch, Floyd Roden, Diane (Greg) Boardman, Linda (Dick) Raymond, Susan "Sue" (Steve) Louricas, Janet (Marty) Anderson and Kenneth "Kenny" (Pam) Roden; sister-in-law: "Bede" Roden; many other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents, brother Jerry Roden, sister: Eileen Richardson; sister-in-law: Bev Roden, brothers-in-law: Melvin Barthel, Dale Vetsch and Don Richardson.
Mass of Christian Burial for Marilyn Barthel will be held on Wednesday, December 31st at 11:00 A.M. at the St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael. Interment at St. Michael Cemetery. Mass will be livestreamed via the church Youtube link: https://www.youtube.com/@StMichaelCatholicChurchStMicha
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 30th 4-7 P.M. at The Peterson Chapel in St. Michael. Further visitation Wednesday morning, December 31st one hour prior to Mass at the church.
