Brooks, Marilyn May 82, died peacefully in Santa Monica, CA, on April 21, 2007. Born November 17, 1924, in Mpls, MN. Married childhood sweetheart and loving husband of 48 years, Morton Brooks, who predeceased her in 1994. Known for her assertive, gregarious personality, and incredible sense of humor. An advocate for helping others right injustices; one of the first older students in competitive paralegal program at University of Minnesota at age 50. Worked at county welfare department helping the underserved for several years, prior to retiring to Las Vegas. Later moved near family in central Florida. Spent last days in California, under Hospice care, surrounded by family and friends. Loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Marilyn never met a stranger. Preceded in death by twin sister, Dorothy Landy. Survived by siblings: Leonard Savitt, Ruth Warsett, and Arlene Davis, all in MN; sons: Dr. David (Christina), ND; Michael, CA; daughters: Ronna Sather (Michael), CA; Sandra Brooks (Dr. Raul Zimmerman), FL; Beth Pattee (Dr. Gary), CA; and 11 grandchildren: Molly, Carrie, Jonathon, Allison, Zachary, Noah, Chelsea, triplets: Carly, Brittany, & Brandon, and Kenzie. Private Nevada family memorial, followed by summer Minnesota celebration of her life, with extended family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to: Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL, 32129. Dear Brooks Family,
My heartfelt condolences on the passing of your mom. I am sure it was in large part, that she influenced all of you to become the great successes that you are. I will always remember her as a veritable force of nature...a wildly entertaining and caring one at that.
