Douglas Schultz
October 7, 1944 - November 5, 2025
Douglas Schultz of DeWitt, Iowa, having served the Lord faithfully, has entered into rest at the age of 81.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 16, 2025, at Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. The Service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 17, 2025, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.
Douglas Darryl Schultz was born October 7, 1944, in Denison, Iowa, to Ralph and Elsie (Crane) Schultz. He graduated from Denison High School, class of 1962, Clarinda Community College, and later the University of Minnesota with a degree in Mortuary Science. Doug was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Stanley on August 5, 1967, in Siam, Iowa. The two began their life together in Minneapolis during lean years while Doug completed his schooling. He worked tirelessly – at a gas station, on the city street crew – doing whatever was needed to make ends meet.
He completed his internship with Walter Funeral Home in Mapleton, Iowa, and became licensed while he was there. In 1975, Doug and Pat moved to Grand Mound with practically nothing, and with the help of the Kelly family, purchased Kelly Funeral Home. Doug did whatever it took to keep their young business going. He drove a school bus, painted houses, helped local farmers – anything that would support his family and their work. In 1981, Doug and Pat purchased the former McGinnis Funeral Home in DeWitt.
Doug was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Grand Mound. He loved tractors and took great joy in going on tractor rides with Tractor Cruise USA. Over the years, he collected over 20 tractors, each with a story. He was endlessly helpful, hard-working, and caring, the kind of person who quietly went the extra mile for others. Doug loved his family and worked hard to provide for them. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Pat; daughters, Sarah (Ray) Ackerman of DeWitt, and Diane (Paul) Stachewicz of Lakeville, Minnesota; grandchildren, Raymond and Kyle Ackerman, and Brandon (Angela) Stachewicz, Bryce Stachewicz, and Elyse Stachewicz; a great-grandson, Bradley, and one more on the way; brothers, Glenn (Lou) Schultz Sioux City, and Meredith (Donna) Schultz of Ennis, Texas; a sister, Cynthia Avalos of Ames; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister-in-law, Terry Schultz, sister and brother-in-law, Wanda (Marvin) Babcock, and brother-in-law, Hector Avalos.
Arrangements are in the care of Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound. Condolences may be expressed at:
