Marilyn Ann Carr

1941 - 2025

Marilyn (Spinks) Carr of Canastota passed away peacefully surrounded by family on
April 17, 2025, after a brief illness. She was born on November 4, 1941. Parents were
Leslie and Alice (Burke) Merrill. She graduated from North Syracuse School District.
Marilyn had many accomplishments; her eight children were her proudest, she always put family first. She was a strong determined woman who rose above and beyond life's challenges, working several jobs to provide for her children. She was a passionate woman with a great sense of humor, was thrifty and very thoughtful when gift giving.
Marilyn was a dedicated wife, married to Douglas Carr for thirty years. Marilyn and Doug owned Doug's Rent-A-Boat, Restaurant and Motel on Oneida Lake for many years. Together they wrote fishing articles for the Eagle Newspapers and the New York Sportsman magazine. Marilyn also wrote the "Lakeside Neighbors" column sharing community updates. At the restaurant, Marilyn was the chef, Doug was the bartender. Marilyn was later employed at BJ's Wholesale Club and Nicotra's Farm stand for years where she loved talking with customers. At Carrier Corp, she was proud to be a certified forklift operator!
Marilyn and Douglas had eight children together; Kathy (Mark), Sue (Steve) Cooley, Judy (Dave) Hulpiau, Doug (Jen), Dan, Sandy (Ben), Patty Damon and Lesley Johnson; twenty grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She is survived by brother Gerald (Eleanor) Merrill, nieces Kristin (Steve) Boydstun, Amy (Jeff) and nephew Russ (Linda) Arnold, and many extended family members. She was predeceased by Carl Spinks, her sister Linda (Spinks) Arnold and niece Teresa (Arnold) Chapin.
A private burial is planned for the family, there will be no calling hours.
A celebration of Marilyn's life will be on Sunday May 18, 2025 from 1pm to 5pm at the Bridgeport VFW Memorial Post 8440 at 516 NY-31, Bridgeport NY 13030
