Marilyn Clubine Obituary

Published by Cook Funeral & Cremation Services - Grandville Chapel on Aug. 27, 2013.
CLUBINE (AVINK) Marilyn Joyce Clubine (Avink), age 78, of Hudsonville, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Tuesday, August 27, 2013, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. She is survived by her daughters Lynea and Robert D'Angelo (Warren) and son Mark of Florida, and Beth and Richard Van Norman (Warren), daughters Alexis and Audra of Hudsonville; sister-in-law, Geraldine Avink of Kalamazoo, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lincoln Clubine, parents Herman and Priscilla Avink, brothers Norman and Junior (Eleanor) Avink. Marilyn graduated from Hudsonville High School in 1953, where she served on the reunion committee for the last 55 years. She grew up attending South Blendon Reformed Church and then was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Grand Rapids for over 50 years. She was a faithful and active member who loved her Lord. She spent most of her adulthood working at Grand Valley State University in the Fieldhouse taking care of many young adults as they participated in athletics. She was known to many kids as their "mom away from home," always giving hugs and making others feel welcome. She retired in 1994 but continued to stay busy traveling thousands of miles with her husband Lincoln and their friends, and continuing her crafts. She was an avid scrap-booker, completing several books for her family. She participated in many craft shows throughout West Michigan, displaying her creativity through photo albums, jewelry displays, and many other ways. She kept her hands busy whether it was crafting, cleaning, or cooking, and was known as a very talented seamstress, up for any challenge given to her. Her kids wore their "custom made" clothes with pride. She was a fun loving person who loved having people in her home. Family and friends knew her as a kid at heart. Her smile cheered the hearts of many people even through her last days. She lived her life as a virtuous woman and was an excellent example of a wife, mother, grandmother, cousin, friend and co-worker. We are very fortunate and blessed to have had her in our lives. She will be greatly missed by many. A Celebration of Marilyn's life will be held 10 AM Saturday, August 31, at Cook Memorial Chapel in Grandville, 4235 Prairie St. SW (east building). A time for relatives and friends to visit with Marilyn's family will be held 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM Friday at Cook Funeral Home (west building). Memorial contributions may be made to Rehoboth Assisted Living Home or Hospice of Holland. Please visit www.cookcares.com to share memories, send condolences, or sign the guestbook.

Lynea, Mark and Beth,
Bonnie and I were so sorry to learn of your mother's passing. We enjoyed knowing her through Uncle Lincoln. She was a wonderful, friendly and charming person. We know she loved Uncle Lincoln very much and made him a much better man. I used to correspond with Marilyn via email and had no idea of why she stopped writing. My mom, Jane, dearly loved Marilyn. Please accept our sympathy at this difficult time.

I remember the fun times we had on Dogwood Ct. growing up. Your mom was such a special part of that. I know Lori still has the Barbie clothes she made. My thought and prayers are with you all.
