Marilyn Hollis Coe (Moore), a beloved matriarch and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026, in Independence, Missouri, surrounded by love. Born on February 16, 1934, in Ludlow, Missouri, Marilyn epitomized the essence of family devotion and selfless service throughout her life.
Marilyn had many adventures in life. She embraced each day with a spirit of warmth and a heart full of purpose. She was well-known for her unwavering commitment to family, and she found immense joy in nurturing those around her. A devoted mother to her five children and all her grandchildren, her legacy continues through them and their families. A 1952 graduate of Mooresville High School, she played as a guard on the girls' basketball team that won the state championship. She worked for Sears in KCMO, filling orders. As a dedicated military wife she traveled and lived all over the United States, including Hawaii. She also traveled abroad, living in Jeddah (and Abha), Saudi Arabia for many years. She dedicated countless hours caring for her home and volunteered at Blackburn Elementary School, where her nurturing spirit touched the lives of many children, and many fond friendships were made. Her love for family and children was evident in everything she did. Beyond her familial duties, Marilyn expressed her creativity through ceramics, sewing, embroidery, and various crafts. She found delight in old country music, and her home was always a gathering place filled with laughter, heartwarming stories, and an abundance of love.
Marilyn is survived by her children, Marilyn Martel (Jim), Diane Smith (Joe Antoine), Barbara Gates (Mike), Gene Coe (Helen), and Gayle LaFavor (Chris Barchak); 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and numerous great great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored. She is also survived by her sisters, Lois Goodman and Carol Pearce, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends whose lives she enriched with her kindness and generosity. She is now reunited with her late husband, LeRoy G. Coe, her parents Gene and Eugenia Moore, her grandson Travis Smith, and her brothers Glen Moore and Gene Moore Jr., as well as her sister Beverly Beck.
A visitation to celebrate Marilyn's life will be held on January 14, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, MO. Following the visitation, a graveside service will take place at Mooresville Cemetery at 1:00 PM.
Marilyn leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and an unwavering spirit that will be cherished by all who had the honor of knowing her. Her impact on those around her will forever echo in the hearts of family and friends, reminding us all of the beauty of her life and the warmth of her love.
