Marilyn Comte Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Williams Funeral Directors - Garland on Dec. 8, 2025.
Marilyn George Comte, 88, of Murphy, Texas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 4, 2025. She was born on February 27, 1937, in San Antonio, Texas, to the late Hal Stanford and Wandalena Bloomingdale George.

Marilyn graduated from Edgewood High School in 1955 and married John Comte on May 21, 1956, in Seguin, Texas. Shortly after, they moved to Garland, Texas, where they built a loving home and raised their three children: John, Kyle, and Carole.

While John attended the University of North Texas, Marilyn devoted herself to caring for their family. Later, she began working at Forestridge Elementary to stay close to her children. Her career eventually led her to the Richardson Public Library, where she served for more than 30 years. Her work there became much more than a job, it was a cornerstone of community connection, a career based on public service and a source of lifelong friendships.

Marilyn was deeply proud of her Texas heritage. As a sixth-generation Texan, she became a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, a legacy that continued through to her daughter and granddaughters, and now great granddaughters, creating a chain of sixth, seventh, eighth, and nineth-generation Texans. Above all, Marilyn cherished time with her family-planning gatherings, traveling to Big Bend National Park, and passing down traditions, love, and the importance of family to future generations.

She is survived by her daughter, Carole Comte Schreck, and husband David; grandchildren Shannon Marie Comte and husband Todd Kime, Elisabeth Louise Comte and her husband Derek, Rachael Arlene Matz and husband Joshua, Anna Marie Comte Schreck, and Ellie Grace Comte Schreck; great-granddaughters Ava Arlene Matz, Addie Nicole Matz, and Marigold Wolf Comte-Kime; and her sister, Jackie Ort, and her children, Lisa Castro and Philip Ort. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband John, and her sons John T. Comte III and Kyle Marc Comte.

A Memorial service will be held at 1pm on Monday Dec 15, 2025, at Williams Funeral Directors, 1600 S. Garland Ave in Garland, TX. Family and Friends will have an opportunity to visit and remember Marilyn at a brief reception immediately following the service.
