Marilyn Dupre Wentland

Marilyn Dupre Wentland, 92, of Roaring Brook Twp. died on May 19, 2024, at The Gardens of Green Ridge in Scranton. She was the widow of Jacob J. Wentland, Jr., who died in 2012.Born in Scranton, Marilyn was the daughter of the late Leo and Ann Sullivan Dupre. She graduated from Scranton Central High School and went on to receive a Bachelor's Degree in History and a Master's Degree in Counselor Education from Marywood College, where she was an active member of the alumni association for many years. Prior to retirement in 2001, she was employed as a Staff Development Trainer for the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare for 21 years.

Travel was her favorite way to spend her free time. Marilyn never passed up an opportunity to travel, with Europe being a frequent and favorite destination. She also enjoyed entertaining family and friends at her home. Belonging to her bridge club was merely an excuse to host a party. Playing tennis was another pastime she enjoyed, and she was a regular member of the area's racquet clubs.

She is survived by her son, Jacob J. Wentland III, nieces Cynthia Gavin Cadden and Gale Gavin Hopkins (D. Philip), a nephew A. Jeffrey Gavin, a grandniece Lindsay Gavin, and a grandnephew Conor Cadden. Marilyn was preceded in death by her sister Lois Dupre Gavin and her sister-in-law Mary Wentland Kotula.

Marilyn was a member of St. Eulalia Church, Roaring Brook Twp. At her request, the funeral services will be private.
