Marilyn Rickenbach Eckert, 89, passed peacefully from this life in her home in New Bloomfield on Saturday, December 2nd, 2023.
Marilyn was born January 6,1934 and grew up in Shillington, PA. After High School, she attended nursing school at Reading Hospital. Upon graduation,Marilyn married Phillip L Eckert and together they raised 3 children and several foster children. She became an ICU nurse at Carlisle Hospital, and later was the Nursing Supervisor for the hospital. She loved her work and was an excellent nurse. Those who worked with her spoke often of her skill and compassion. She also utilized her medical knowledge as an ambulance volunteer for New Bloomfield.
She attended Christ Lutheran Church in New Bloomfield. Over the years, she served as the Sunday School Superintendent, Jr. Choir Director, and Acolyte Trainer. She also sang alto in the church choir, played in the handbell choir, and occasionally played her flute.
She will be remembered by many for her love of music, crafting, and her appreciation of the movie, "Gone With the Wind". Her dry sense of humor and quick-witted conversation will surely be missed by those who knew her. She loved to quilt, play cards, watch the Phillies play, and study the Civil War.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mabel and J. Robert Rickenbach, her sisters, Jean and Sylvia, her brothers, David and Robert, and her beloved husband, Phil. She is survived by her children; Phillip Ashley, and wife, Jayne (Rosenbery), Jonathan Robert, and wife, Beth (Rice), Melanie Ann, and husband, Michael Haire and foster daughter, Diane Baltaeff. Also, four grandchildren; Erin, Amanda (Mark Gephart), Kara and Ashton, and two great-granddaughters; Evie and Rayann.
In accordance with Maryilyn's own wishes, there will be no funeral services. Donations can be made to Christ Lutheran Church in New Bloomfield, New Bloomfield EMS, or to Wild Nest Bird Rehab, Decatur, GA.
