Marilyn Evans Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hugh B. Hughes & Son, Inc., Funeral Home on Jan. 15, 2026.
Marilyn Louise Culp Evans, a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished grandmother, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025, at General Hospital in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. She was 94.

Born on May 21, 1930, in Kingston, Pennsylvania, Marilyn was the youngest child of Gilbert Wood Culp and Emma Sophia Smith. Raised during the Great Depression, she developed resilience and grace that defined her life.

A woman of quiet strength and sincere faith, Marilyn was a longtime member of Wyoming Avenue Christian Church, where she joyfully served as a pianist and organist for many years.

On July 19, 1952, Marilyn married James Gordon Evans in Kingston. They shared 62 loving years together until his passing in 2015. Their marriage was marked by deep faith, love, and devotion as they raised five children: Suzanne Dreistadt (Mark), Mark Evans (Lisa), Nancy Kinney (Bruce), David Evans (Kathy), and Richard Evans (Molly). Marilyn is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her role as a homemaker, Marilyn worked in clerical positions at Culp Brothers and Design Systems.

She delighted in life's simple joys-family meals, cherished traditions, and visits from loved ones. Her home was a place of warmth and hospitality, where family gathered to share stories, laughter, and memories.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings Gilbert, George, Lewis, William, and Emma Irene.

A private family service will be held in her honor. Memorial contributions may be made to Samaritan's Purse (https://tinyurl.com/MLCE25).
