Our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, Marilyn Rogers Harris, passed away November 21, 2025, surrounded by family. She was 97 years old.
She was born September 24, 1928, in Garland, Utah to Russell Boyd Rogers and Alverta Thompson Rogers. She was the third child of seven. She attended grade school in Garland, and attended Bear River High School in Tremonton. She graduated from Seminary in 1945 and High School in 1946. She loved her school years.
Marilyn had many jobs in her life including, hoeing beets which she was happy to change to working at the City Drug Store and also Secretary at Bear River High School.
During her youth, she also learned the skill of making her famous chocolates from her Mother. We all have enjoyed that gift she had, as she shared with so many people in her life.
She married the love of her life, Willliam (Bill) Harris in 1948, and together they had five children; Juanita, Craig William, Christine, Mark, and Bart. They started their lives together in Trenton, Utah purchasing his parents’ farm, which kept them busy milking cows and farming. After a few years they sold the farm and moved to Nampa, Idaho, where she had several church positions, including Young Women’s and Relief Society. She also worked part-time at the Livestock Auction. In July of 1963, Bill decided to go into business with his brother at the Livestock Auction in Shoshone, Idaho. They settled their family here, and became involved in church activities, and met many lifelong friends in this community. She also worked at the Lincoln County Court House in the Clerk’s office as Deputy Recorder and Indigent Clerk. Marilyn was always very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her church positions were very important and dear to her along with being called to work in the Boise Temple.
Bill passed away in 2007, which broke her heart, but with the love and caring of her family, she picked up the broken pieces and decided to sell their home and moved to Rexburg, Idaho to be with her youngest son, Bart, and his family. She again settled right in and met many people who quickly became her dear friends. She seemed to easily move to a new area and be welcomed and loved.
Marilyn lived in Rexburg for many years, until 2018, when she moved back to Southern Idaho and made her new and final home at Canyons Retirement Community in Twin Falls. They met her with open arms and took her in, and she quickly became right at home and was loved by all. They took wonderful care of her and welcomed her family in as well.
Marilyn loved her family and we always knew how much she loved and appreciated each one of us. She was devoted to her family, her faith, and her friends. She will be missed by all of us, and so many others that she met in her 97 years.
Marilyn is survived by her children, Juanita (Fred) Trenkle, Craig (Terrie) Harris, Chris (Scott) Uhrig, Mark (Shannon) Harris, and Bart (Gina) Harris; 17 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William (Bill) Harris; siblings, Edith Rogers Sorensen, Lavon Rogers Price, Russell Lamont Rogers, Arlene Rogers Stark, Norman Thompson Rogers, Burke Wayne Rogers; and one great-grandchild, Preston Leguineche.
A Funeral will be held at 11:00 am, with a viewing beginning at 10:00 am, Monday, December 1, 2025, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 505 N Greenwood Street, Shoshone, Idaho. Burial will conclude at the Portage Cemetery in Portage, Utah, at 1:00 pm, Tuesday December 2, 2025.
Marilyn’s family would like to thank the hospital staff at St. Luke’s for all the loving care they gave to our mother in her last days. We would also like to thank the staff at Canyons Retirement Community for their continued love and support.
