Marilyn Elaine (Glover) Keener, 77, of Mannington, West Virginia, passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2025, while under the care of Hospice and in the comfort of her youngest daughter's home in Uniontown, Ohio, and is now at home with her Lord and Savior.

She was the first child and only daughter of LuEtta and George Glover. She and her younger brother lived a quintessential small-town life. Marilyn's summer days were filled with time at the public pool at Hough Park, annual stays at Camp Giscowheco, a Girl Scout camp in Triadelphia, WV, and Vacation Bible School at the First United Methodist Church on Clarksburg Street, where her family was members.

She was a master of the hula hoop, an avid reader, and a member of the local Brownies and Girl Scouts. Following in her Father's footsteps as an Eagle Scout, Marilyn earned the highest ranking and most prestigious award in Girl Scouting, the Gold Award.

As a Mother, she was both a Brownie and Girl Scout troop leader for both of her daughters. This ongoing commitment to service and community also resulted in her winning a seat on the Mannington City Council for her district during the 1980s.

Marilyn was always eager to learn, which led to her becoming the salutatorian of her class at Mannington High School in 1966, where her close friends called her "Meg," formed from her initials.

Later that summer, she was crowned the Mannington District Fair Queen, which provided her with a scholarship for Fairmont State University, where she began her college career in Secretarial Studies but eventually completed multiple degrees in Education and Business Administration. She later went on to complete many hours toward her Master's Degree in Special Education.

She spent the bulk of her career as a substitute teacher in the Marion County, WV, School system. Later, she worked several years as a Business Teacher and mentor at the Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC) in Fairmont. Her focus and role as an instructor helped people help themselves by providing them with quality opportunities to develop the professional skills necessary for personal and professional advancement.

Marilyn concluded her teaching career in 2016 while living in Winchester, Virginia, where she retired after ten (plus) years as a Teacher of Students with Multiple and Severe Disabilities at Northwestern Regional Education Programs (NREP) in Frederick County, VA. Her friend and co-worker, Sharon Jahn Ritenour, expressed, "She was an asset personally and professionally. She cared greatly for both her students and the staff with whom she worked."

In 2023, she returned to West Virginia, where she was a regular attendee of Trinity Assembly of God. Unsurprisingly, through the church, she became a member of The Red Hat Society, a women's group committed to promoting fun, friendship, self-expression, and lifelong learning.

Marilyn is survived by her three children, son Chad Keener (Trish Keener), granddaughters Faith and Grace Keener, daughter Beth Keener-Flanery (Mark Flanery), bonus granddaughter Darian Flanery, and bonus great-granddaughter Fiona Conrad, daughter Mollyjo (Keener) Gladwell (Steven Gladwell) and grandsons, Gabriel, Isaac, Morgan, Elijah, Lincoln, and Marshall Gladwell, her brother Wayne "Bud" Glover (Roseann Glover), her nephew Matthew and niece Holly, her Sister-in-law, Anne Keener, and cousins Teena (Napalo) Garner and Lisa (Napalo) Clark.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, William "Butch" Keener, her Mother, LuEtta (Tennant) Glover, her Father, George H. Glover, and her granddaughter, Victoria Madison Keener.

Marilyn also leaves behind many close friends, whom she considers family, including Georgine (Neville) Moore, Kate and Lenny Stafford (Julie Stafford Kincaid), and extended family, Judy and Don Miller, Cathy (Capet) Maxwell, Suzette Prichard, Vivian Richards, Sharon Robinson, and Sharon Jahn Ritenour.

A small, private family graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 3rd, and a private celebration of life will be held in late October.

Marilyn's legacy will continue with an annual gift to the Girl Scouts of Black Diamond, Charleston, WV, which will help cover the cost of Girl Scout memberships in Marion County and throughout West Virginia. If you would like to make an "in memoriam" gift to the Girl Scouts, please visit:
