Marilyn Jean Latimer, age 78, of Unionville, passed away September 27, 2024 at her home on hospice care.
Marilyn was born at home in Akron Township, on August 2, 1946, to Manuel and Anna (Herman) Southgate. She graduated from Unionville High School in 1964. She then attended Northeastern School of Business and received her Associates Business Degree in Secretarial Accounting. After graduation, she went to work for Mackinaw Trucking Company in Bay City, doing all accounts and payroll for thirty employees. She worked for numerous companies over the years, including a cement business, trucking business and for her husband's construction business, Walt Latimer Builders. On July 6, 1968, she married Walter Latimer at the Wisner United Methodist Church. She enjoyed feeding and watching birds, adored cats, working jigsaw puzzles, caring for plants, cooking, crafting (was the creative force behind many Vacation Bible Schools décor) and doing puppet ministry with friends for many years. She also taught Sunday school for many years and after retirement, worked at Bay Shore Camp in the kitchen as a cook. She will be missed for her special sense of humor, expressed by her witty remarks. A special thank you goes to Lindsay Hartman for being her caretaker and McLaren Hospice registered nurse, Jean Docktor, for her compassion and knowledge.
Marilyn is survived by her beloved husband, Walter; her dearest son, Bryan Walter Latimer of Saginaw (She was his number one fan and her true joy in life.); brothers: Ronald (Noreen) Southgate and Philip (partner Carole Archangeli) Southgate; and nieces and nephews.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Carol (Victor) Schairer.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing from 4pm-8pm.
The funeral service will be Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at Wisner Christian Community Church. Visitation will begin at the church at 10am until the time of service at 11am. Pastor Oh will be officiating.
Burial will take place privately at Demorest Cemetery.
