It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Marilyn Sue McMillan, who peacefully entered eternal life on July 17, 2025. Marilyn, 86, of Charlotte, was born in Detroit. A devout Catholic, Marilyn found strength in her faith and great joy in receiving the Eucharist, praying her rosary, and discussing Catholic theology with those around her.
Marilyn graduated from Denby High School in Detroit. She was employed by the State of Michigan at the Coldwater Regional Center before transferring to the Kalamazoo Regional Psychiatric Hospital, where she worked in medical records until her retirement.
After retiring, Marilyn liked starting her day with morning coffee at a local fast-food restaurant, where she read books and conversed with other regular customers. She enjoyed watching the birds and squirrels frolic outside her historic home in Charlotte. She also loved studying her well-worn and underlined Bible, oil painting, playing the cello and piano, researching her family history, and knitting.
Marilyn is survived by her children: Edward McMillan II, Catherine McMillan, John (Karen) McMillan, Michael (Teresa) McMillan, James (Susan) McMillan, Douglas McMillan, and Margaret Bales; seven grandchildren, Aaron, Amber, Scott, Michael, Kayla, Luke, and Samantha; and six great-grandchildren. To her great sorrow, Marilyn was preceded in death by her daughters, Theresa McMillan and Marie McMillan; sons-in-law, Darby Tillis and Bryan Bales; sister, Beverly Peterson; and her beloved parents.
Friends are encouraged to support Marilyn's family by attending services or sharing memories on her Tribute Page at www.prayfuneral.com. A Rosary will be held on Sunday, July 27, 2025 at 1:30 p.m. followed by a visitation from 2 - 4 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, July 28, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at St. Monica Catholic Church in Kalamazoo with Rev. Fr. Tom McNally officiating. The funeral will be webcast so you may watch it from any computer, smartphone, or mobile device that has internet access. Go to www.prayfuneral.com, click on Marilyn's tribute, then click on Photos and Videos from your computer (or Media from your smart phone).
