Marilyn Miller Obituary

Marilyn R. Miller

May 24, 1942 - Jan. 8, 2024

BURLEY – Marilyn R. Miller, an 81-year-old resident of Burley, passed away Monday, January 8, 2024, at Parke View Rehabilitation and Care Center in Burley.

She was born May 24, 1942, in Paul, Idaho, the daughter of James Wayne and Ruthilda (Robertson) Miller. Her parents were the owners/operators of Miller Drug in Burley. Marilyn graduated from Burley High School and received a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in Fine Arts from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

Marilyn was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served from 1964 to 1966 in the Southern Far East Mission; her mission responsibilities and service were in Hong Kong and the Philippines. Additionally, she served in the Relief Society and Primary organizations, and was an ordinance worker in the Twin Falls Idaho Temple.

She was a lifelong artist and was a renowned oil painter. Her beautiful paintings adorn homes and businesses throughout the Mini-Cassia area and beyond. She also was an expert in quilting, weaving, and making Christmas cards from the paper she made. Both her art work and quilts were often a beloved attraction at the Cassia County Fair.

The community will remember the gorgeous flowers she grew in her flower garden. Oftentimes tours were given during the summer months for the community to enjoy her garden and the fine music played from local musicians throughout the area. Many of the musicians were students of Jolene Hobson.

Marilyn is survived by her sisters, Nola Ann Hess of Emmett and Judith Marie Reep of West Valley City, Utah; her nieces and nephews, Jim (Karla) Hess, Royce Allen (Kathy) Hess, Laura (Jim) Ferch, Phillip (DeLite) Hess, David (Carmen) Reep, Richard (Meggan) Reep, Aaron (Sherry Ann) Reep, Mary (Tyler) Fuller, and Amy (Dave) Phillips; a special aunt, Glenna Whitaker of Burley; and her friends in the community and the members of the Burley 5th Ward.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother-in-law, Lloyd Hess.

The funeral was held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Burley Idaho West Stake Center, located at 2420 Parke Avenue in Burley, where family and friends were received from 10:00 until 10:45 a.m. Burial will followed at Paul Cemetery.

A webcast of the funeral service will be available and maintained at rasmussenwilson.com.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home of Burley.

I am grateful to have known her. She painted a beautiful picture of Mt Harrison for me, a copy of which I gave to my family. She ocontributed so much to the community and church
