Marilyn Powell Silva, 89, of Barrington, IL passed away peacefully in her home on November 26, 2025. She was born in Chicago in 1936 to John Henry Skarda and Angeline Skorski . 

Marilyn attended nursing school in St. Louis before going to work at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, IL. She cared for patients in several departments and ended her career as a nursing supervisor. While working for the hospital she completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. Marilyn also had her pilots license and flew a small plane out of Palwaukee Airport. Marilyn was very committed to her community and was involved in several philanthropic groups. She was a longtime member of the Infant Welfare Society, which she cared about deeply. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, brother Jack Skarda, and her former husband Jerome Powell. 

She is survived by her husband, Joseph Silva; sister Judy Brahin; and children, William (Lori) Powell, Lance Powell, William Renshaw, John (Nicole) Renshaw, and Barrett Renshaw. Marilyn adored her grandchildren Alex, Paige, Richard, Danielle, Bradley, Taylor, Kennedy, William, Addison, Jenna, and Jacob. She was blessed with great-grandchildren Haze, Asher, Brody, Molly, and William. She also treasured former daughters-in-law Brenda Powell and Brooke Renshaw. 

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandma, great grandma, friend and a cherished member of her community and church. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and love of family.

 Visitation will be held at St Anne’s Church in Barrington, IL on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 from 9:00 am until 10:30 am with a mass following immediately. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Marilyn’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
