Annetta Marilyn Sharp, 87, of Burlington, IA passed away Friday, January 3, 2025, after an illness, surrounded by family under the care of Southeast Iowa Regional Home Health and Hospice.
Born to James and Nellie (Barnett) Cozad, on July 22, 1937, in Oskaloosa, IA in her grandmother's home. She was raised with five siblings: William, Paul, Janice, Mary and Cecilia. She married Garnett O. Herrington. Together they had six children whom all still survive. They later divorced. On January 1, 1992, in Ottumwa, Iowa, she married Eugene "Gene" Sharp.
Marilyn graduated from Des Moines Tech High School and later attended Emmaus Bible College. Marilyn worked as a Juvenile Court Technician for the Des Moines County Juvenile Court Services for over 30 years. She was a vital member of the juvenile court team providing support and encouragement to her coworkers, children, and parents with whom she served. In 2001 Marilyn decided it was time to retire and enjoy life.
Marilyn was a beloved wife, mother, and friend; known for her compassion, welcoming presence, spirit of hospitality, encouragement, loyalty, and flair for fashion, hence her alias of Glamma. Her faith in the Lord was central to her life and she loved the Lord with all her heart. Raising her six children to know, understand and love the Lord as their personal savior. In the spring and summer, you could always find Marilyn working in her flower beds and making her back yard look like a secret garden. She and her husband Gene would design and make gifts for friends and family out of Gene's talent of woodworking. Most of all Marilyn loved and adored spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Marilyn will be deeply missed by her loving husband Gene Sharp; six children who adored her: D. Alan Herrington of Ottumwa, Iowa, Beth (Charles) Cantrell of Chesterfield, Missouri, Gayla (Dan) Veatch of Ottumwa, Iowa, Melody (Russell) Cantrell of Kechi, Kansas, Kari (Kent) Roemerman of Ottumwa, Iowa, and D. Eric (Sharon) Herrington of Little Elm, Texas; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren all of whom were her world.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Mary.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Marilyn's honor from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, January 12, 2025, at the Klein Center Community Room where the family will meet with friends.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in her memory for Family Life Services. Checks can be made payable to Family Life Services and mailed to: 1880 S Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80905.
