Marilyn Simpson, age 73 of Algona, passed away on Friday, September 19, 2025 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. Funeral Service will be 10:30 AM on Thursday, September 25, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona and will be livestreamed on Trinity Lutheran's YouTube page: https://youtube.com/live/G0ZLd82NrQs. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until the time of service on Thursday at the church. Burial will take place at the Blakjer Lutheran Cemetery in Fenton. Services have been entrusted to Lentz Funeral Home of Algona.

Marilyn Jean Simpson, the daughter of Earl Julian and Ella Mae (Jacobson) Cherland, was born on November 27, 1951 in Burt, Iowa. She graduated from Burt High School in 1970. On June 1, 1970, Marilyn was united in marriage to Richard Wayne Simpson in the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They later divorced. She worked at Snap On for 40 years.

Marilyn was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona where she was active in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and the TLC Quilters. She was also a member of friends of the Algona Public Library and a Forever member of the International Association of Machinists Local 1045. Marilyn enjoyed flowers, watching and feeding birds, crocheting, quilting, traveling, and cheering on her favorite football and basketball teams, including the Hawkeyes, Indiana Fever, and Green Bay Packers. She also enjoyed pedal pushing for the Rose parade and babysitting her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Left to cherish Marilyn's memory are her children, Shannon Simpson, Brandon Simpson, and Michelle Simpson; grandchildren, Corbin Kohlhaas and Dalton Simpson; two great grandchildren; siblings, Ron Cherland, Evelyn Baker, Judy (Steve) Rieff, and Janet Wiltgen; in-laws, Judy McGrath, Peggy (Andy) Nelson, Kathy Simpson, and John (Merry) Simpson; and multiple beloved nieces, nephews, and their children.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Julian and Ella Mae; former husband, Richard; in-laws, Dwight and Deona Simpson; brothers-in-law, Rev. Paul Baker, Erv Wiltgen, David "Goat" Simpson, and Jim Simpson; and sisters-in-law, Marcia Cherland and Rose Hutchison.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Marilyn's name and directed to the Trinity Lutheran Church Quilters or the friends of the Algona Public Library.
