Julia Patton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sunset Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Estates on Feb. 2, 2026.
Julia A. Patton (Buck), born on July 17, 1941, in Algona, Iowa, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026, at John Knox Village in Lee's Summit, Missouri, where she lived for the past 8 years. She was raised in Peoria, Illinois, but spent the majority of her years happily raising a family in Collinsville and Granite City, Illinois.

Julia was the beloved daughter of Harold M. and Vinna J. Buck, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her devoted husband of 51 years, William L. Patton, Jr.

She is lovingly remembered by her children: Craig (Denise) Patton, Eric (Martha) Patton, and Laura Irish. Julia's legacy continues through her six grandchildren-Mary Kate Wilson, Sara Patton, Jack Patton, Andrew Patton, Colleen Irish, and Grahm Irish-and one great-grandchild, Nolan Wilson.

Julia studied at the University of Mexico and graduated from the University of Illinois where she met her future husband. She was a dedicated school teacher who taught Spanish and French to countless students at Collinsville High School. Throughout her life, Julia found joy in simple pleasures and meaningful connections. She had a deep love for reading, sewing, knitting and could often be found immersed in a good book. The Halloween costumes and outfits she made for her children and grandchildren are cherished family heirlooms. Her green thumb brought beauty to every garden she tended and she delighted in shopping excursions that often ended with thoughtful gifts for those she loved. Most of all, Julia treasured time spent visiting with friends and family-moments filled with laughter, stories, and warmth.

Julia's presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those who mourn her passing and inspiration to those who carry forward the love she so generously gave.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to a charity of one's choice. A private family ceremony will be held at a future date.

The family is being served by Sunset Hill Funeral Home, 50 Fountain Drive, Glen Carbon, Illinois 62034.
