Marilyn Smith Obituary

Visit the Brainard Funeral Home and Cremation Center - Everest Chapel website to view the full obituary.

Marilyn A. (Shaw) Smith, 84, of Rothschild, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026, at the Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Marilyn was born on April 23, 1941 to Raymond and Renetta (Kostus) Shaw.

Family meant everything to Marilyn. Known as “Nama” by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Marilyn made every holiday and birthday special for them. Her celebrations included decorations for all occasions, the world’s tastiest apple pie, and activities like scavenger hunts and decorating cutout cookies. “Mickey” loved to laugh with her sisters and niece Renee in frequent phone calls that brought her great joy. Marilyn cherished family time at Bluegill Lake where swimming, fishing, and campfires filled each day with carefree fun.

A music lover, Marilyn was a member of the D.C. Everest Songspinners choir, and she received a prestigious scholarship for her beautiful voice. She continued singing often, especially at church, first at St. Therese Parish, where served as a secretary, and then as a charter member of St. Mark Parish. She enjoyed her lovely garden and, for a short time, shared flower arrangements and humorous conversations as she worked in a floral shop. Marilyn cared for others deeply, and her devotion will be greatly missed.

Marilyn is survived by her children, Kimberly (Keith) Rosenow and Klint (Jessa) Smith; grandchildren Dustyn Smith, Kyrianna Smith, and Adria Smith; great-grandchildren Jeremiah, Athena, Blake, and Avery; sister Joanne (Donald) Smith; sister-in-law Carol Shaw; brother-in-law Floyd Goytowski; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Smith; parents, Raymond and Renetta; mother- and father-in-law John and Lucy (Becker) Smith; brother Donald Shaw; sister Debra Goytowski Robl; brothers- and sisters-in-law Wayne (Sharon) Smith, Geraldine (Albert) Pregont, and Kathleen (Neil) Spatz; grandsons Derryk Clark and Dyllan Smith; and nephew Richard Shaw.

A Funeral Service for Marilyn will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 12:00 PM at St Marks Catholic Church (602 Military Road, Rothschild, WI 54474) with Fr. Janusz Kowlaski officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2026, from 10:30 AM until the Rosary at 11:30 AM at St Marks Catholic Church. A luncheon will follow mass. Burial will take place of Friday, February 20, 2026, at Saint Adalbert Cemetery in Rosholt.

The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and care givers who provided comfort and compassion to Marilyn at the Aspirus Hospital and Clinics and her rehabilitation and living facilities over the past few months.

In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to her family that will be designated at a later date.
