Marilyn Metheny Travis was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 19, 1942. She died in New York City on December 14, 2025.

Marilyn is survived by her grandchildren Casey Barrett and Maggie Barrett, her son-in-law, Damien Barrett and Alise from Painted Post, NY; her sister Marcia Metheny Mellott and brother-in-law Jack Biskie from Poinciana, Florida; nephew Michael Mellott, and Betsy; great-nieces Lauren, Rachel and great-nephews Logan and Connor; and of course David Bishop, long time friend and almost-son.

Marilyn attended Hookway elementary school and Calumet High school, both in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from the University of Illinois in 1963 wirh a BA in fine arts.

After moving to NYC in late 1963, she proceeded to act in off-Broadway and improv shows. She later worked at Roosevelt St. Luke's on the pharmacy department for 18 years.

In 1972 she married Bernie Travis and continued to work until the birth of her daughter, Katherine Travis in 1974.

Marilyn was a member of the University Disciples of Christ Church in Chicago and the Unitarian Universalists Church of New York City.

She was proceeded in death by her parents Elmer Metheny and Margaret Lowe Metheny, her daughter Katherine Travis Barrett and husband Bernie Travis.
