Marilyn Voce Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral & Cremation Services on Dec. 27, 2025.
MARQUETTE-Marilyn Jean Voce, 87 of Marquette, passed away on December 24, 2025, at UP Health System in Marquette.
Marilyn was born on August 29, 1938 in L'Anse, Michigan, the daughter of Wilho and Gloria (Haara) Koski and was raised in Marquette. On February 14, 1956, she married Charles LaValley, and together they raised a family in Harvey. During those years, Marilyn was a devoted Homemaker and mother who also babysat for extra income.
Following her separation from Charles, Marilyn later met George Voce, whom she married on December 13, 1977. Around this time, she began working at her mother's restaurant, Gloria's Café, located in downtown Marquette. While working there, Marilyn became well known for her generosity and compassion, often feeding those in need, especially the homeless, at no cost. She worked at Gloria's Café for several years before spending a couple of years at the Edgewater Restaurant and Hotel. Afterward, she returned to being a homemaker.
Marilyn enjoyed watching television, visiting the casino, knitting, crocheting, and baking. She was fiercely independent, deeply loving, and nurturing. Marilyn was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off her back. She always put others first, sacrificing much of herself to care for those she loved.
Marilyn is survived by her children: Paul (Beth) LaValley of Marquette, Therese LaValley of Marquette, Cindy LaValley of Marquette, and Pete (Laura) LaValley of Vulcan, Michigan; grandchildren: Tina, Tony, Michael, Evelyn, Travis, Tyler, Brittany, Jesse, Dominick, and Dillon; great-grandchildren: Owen, Maddie, Otto, Noah, Jonah, Castiel, and Matthias; along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George Voce; her son, Patrick LaValley; and her siblings: David Haara, Kathleen Homgren, Theodore Haara, Joy Tousignant, and Robert Haara.
Honoring Marilyn's request no public services will be held. The Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services is serving the family where condolences may be expressed online at fassbenderswansonhansen.com
