Marilyn Vowels
Marilyn Kay Vowels was a beacon of light and love, whose life journey began on June 4, 1940, in the small town of Prescott, Michigan. She graced this world with her presence until December 22, 2024, when she peacefully passed away in Midland, Michigan, after a life well-lived and filled with joy, love, and service. Marilyn, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, left this earth at the age of 84, surrounded by the warmth of her family and the countless memories they shared.
Marilyn's story is one of enduring love and commitment. She was the cherished wife of Robert Vowels for an incredible 65 years, a bond that stood as a testament to their unwavering partnership and mutual devotion. Together, they raised two wonderful daughters, Cheri (Dave) Vowels Knuth, of Midland, and Teri Vowels of Savannah, Georgia. Marilyn's grandchildren, Alex and Nick Knuth of Midland, and Holly Gandy of Savannah, Georgia, added immeasurable joy to her life. Her departure was preceded by her loving parents, mother Peggy Cliff and father Mike Muckenthaler; as well as her stepmother, Irene Muckenthaler; her siblings, Chuck, Rob, and Mary Grace; and nephew Perry Muckenthaler. However, her legacy continues through her cherished niece, Mary Elaine Binschatel; great nieces, Michelle Hildebrand, and Krystal Young; great-nephew Kevin Binschatel; as well as her niece Trudy Roberts.
Marilyn's early years were marked by her radiant spirit, reflected in her being named Homecoming Queen of Sterling High School's class of 1958. This spirit carried her through a fulfilling career, first in the accounting department at Dow Chemical and later as a dedicated homemaker where she raised two daughters with grace and dedication. Her artistic talents shone brightly as a trophy shop engraver, where she crafted awards that celebrated the achievements of others.
A woman of many passions, Marilyn's love for gardening and growing flowers was evident in the blooming paradise she created at home. Her appreciation for nature extended to birds and the great outdoors, finding peace in camping and the serenity of the wilderness. She embodied the essence of nurturing not only through her family but also as a Girl Scout leader and as a supportive Softball and Tennis mom.
Marilyn's faith and community service were central to her life. She was a devout member of Poseyville United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and Youth Group, was involved with Emmaus Walk and helping with Angel Tree. Marilyn's presence was a gift to all who knew her, and her legacy is one that will continue to resonate through the lives she touched.
Marilyn was loving, thoughtful, and selfless. She lived her life with an open heart, always putting others before herself. Marilyn's life was a foundation of love, and she leaves behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and a reminder that we all have the capacity to make a positive difference in the world. Let her life be an inspiration to us all, to live fully, love deeply, and cherish each other.
In accordance with Marilyn's wishes, cremation has taken place and a family memorial service to celebrate her life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the Chippewa Nature Center. All of us at Ware Smith Woolever are honored that the Vowel's family has entrusted us to the care of their loved one. Condolences to the family can be made at
